Carlton Football Club is pleased to declare a net operating profit of $2,611,638 before depreciation and amortisation, with a final statutory net profit of $699,206 for the year ending 31 October 2018.

Today’s announcement continues an upward trend with the Club posting an improved financial result for the fourth consecutive year.

It is also the second year in a row Carlton has generated a net profit.

Port release their financial results at 6pm, the Friday before Christmas: :)

http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2018-12-21/2018-financial-result-released

Loss of nearly $1m, saved by only a $4m land and buildings revaluation.

Port get very good attendances but could not attract a second major sponsor.

The AFL must seriously be looking at giving Koch the arse.
Last year the feds gave Port $4m to build an Aboriginal Centre of Excellence (ACE) which is a project for the building of an admin centre for our numerous aboriginal programs to be housed in there plus a training area in that one building and a second building for the accommodation for 50 students who will come from our aboriginal programs in the bush areas like the APY Lands, so they can complete their studies at high school, TAFE or Uni. This has nothing to do with footy, the students will be assessed on academic results not footy ability. The original plan was going to be just for girls, and all up is a $16~$18m project.

In last years accounts we didnt show the grant as income but as a liability for a government grant received in advance and last years note to the accounts said ... This funding is not available for use until certain conditions have been met, and these conditions had not been met at 31 October 2017. So I suspect we have brought a big chunk if not all of of this grant into the 2018 accounts. Wont know this for sure until the AGM in February.

Of the $1m loss, $310k are one off restructuring costs so dont know if hat has anything to do with the ACE either. Once again will have to wait for the AGM to have that one explained.

Not getting a second Joint Major Sponsor and stuffing up from 11-4 has hurt the club financially.

The China game breaks even because our Chinese benefactor Mr Gui underwrites the game, and whilst we have signed quiet a few small deals around the game but outside the revenues needed to put on the game, we haven't signed a big Chinese sponsor yet, where the sponsorship fees go straight to the club, rather than fund our Power Footy Programs which we are in 20+ schools in China and looking to expand to 100 schools in 2 more provinces by 2020. We signed another deal supporting these programs, this deal for 5 years, in Hangzhou on Tuesday.

Thanks for all these details. I'm not sure you can blame a late season decline in on-field results too much. You were 4th with only 4 rounds to go.

No home final like 2017 means about $250k revenue drop. A full capacity AO final is worth $300k+ to the 2 SA sides.

I thought all profits from finals went to the AFL; none of the Vic clubs get a cent from MCG finals.
AFL get 100% of the ticket revenue from finals, but as hirer of the ground they pay a rental fee to the ground owner/manager.

That owner/manager then makes profits by selling food and beverage, parking, corporate boxes, advertising, functions etc.

Different clubs have different stadium deals at different stadiums. At Subi because Freo and WCE had clean stadium deals they would gross around $1m for hosting a sell out final. Freo commented about not hosting finals in 2016 compared to a QF and PF in 2015. I can't remember the figure but it was well over $1 mil. Brisbane made big $$ from their Gabba clean stadium deal between 2001 - 2004. Sydney negotiated a great deal at ANZ stadium to host finals over the SCG in 2001, which has now terminated.

Port and Adelaide drove a stadium deal review at AO after 2014, as they both got nothing of the success way above the budgeted financial model in 2014. So the 2015 stadium deal review saw them get a deal worth about $300k if they have a home final and get 50,000 crowd, as well as a greater return for the home and away part of the season.

In Perth, AFL finals revenue apparently makes up part of the funds in the 10.3m a year the WAFC takes from the stadium. It wouldnt surprise me if some of the extra revenue from finals at Adelaide Oval comes from the AFL pocket.
Thinking about this a little more, I reckon the SA clubs probably get a slice of the rent fee the AFL pay to the SMA for hiring the ground for a final. That rent fee negotiated by the SMA/SANFL with the AFL might have gone up by around the same amount the clubs' slice was/is.

The West Australian are reporting tomorrow that West Coast made an $11.4 million operating profit last year.

Eleven point four million.
The way the story is written in The West, it sounds like that is before royalty payment to WAFC, which was capped at Subi to $2.3m since 2014, but might have been changed for Perth Stadium. The paragraph about Freo's result before royalty payment suggests that as well.

West Coast have confirmed their status as the financial powerhouse of Australian sport by declaring an $11.4 million operating surplus for the 2018 season.

Even after paying a royalty to the WA Football Commission, which helps fund WA football and is likely to be about $3.9 million, West Coast will post a profit of about $7.5 million. Eagles chairman Russell Gibbs yesterday told The West Australian the royalty would take the club’s payments to WA football over its 32-year history past $140 million.
.....
Fremantle, despite missing the top eight for the third successive year, is set to record a surplus of more than $1 million before its royalty payment.

Still a shitload of profits, and when you included government grants and donations raised for Lathlain Park their Comprehensive Income will probably be $20 million + given they have received $10m from each of the federal and state governments for their new facility over the last few years, and so far have shown under the Other Revenue Outside Operating Activities, as Development Funding, only $7.023m 2017, $1.800m in 2016, $725k in 2015 and $650k in 2014.
