Strategy 2018 Game Plan

So it seems to me that no-one actually knows what the game plan is... and no-one is willing to speculate either.

What about roles? Do you think that each of our players goes out with a specific role to play, or only some of them?

Smith's role must be to take his opponent out of the game... definitely a winner imo :)
Reid's is swing man... and I wonder if he is actually sent down back or now makes the call himself?
Rampe is surely the general in defence now that Teddy is gone... another winner :)
Jones is maybe being developed into a Shaw and Newman into Malceski type roles...

Thoughts, opinions???
I have a game plan! Dont lose the first 6 rounds, and take it from there!

Naismith’s ground play was nonexistent last year but I recall he was coming along promisingly in 2016, before he was injured. I’m still hopeful. Can’t a man dream?

I dream of Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Watson both turning up to my door and telling me they have discussed it and they both want to be my girlfriends at the same time, but I suspect this dream might not happen.

I am not willing to say if this is less likely than Naismith developing a ground game. I think the chances are about equal.

Smile. You’re probably right. We’ll not-soon-enough know.

Let's get serious though - who should be our 10 man lineup in the AFLX?

Franklin
Papley
Heeney
Rampe
Grundy
Rohan
Jones
Towers
Newman
McVeigh

I think that would be a pretty damned good team. Players like Towers and Rohan would have been born to play AFLX too as it really suits their strengths.

my gameplan ideas

put buddy forward and drift around a bit when he cant get the ball

mid to bomb it high and long to him when he is double teamed as he is not a great mark so teams will not expect this stupidity

Reid to shift back every quarter especially if he looks good forward, if he still looks good put him in the ruck.

make sure we get a forward line close to goal of papley, jack towers and another small sometimes (maybe a chance for rose) just to ensure we do not have a pesky marking target

First Ruck to ruck all day and ensure they keep possessions to a minimum, time to shine Sam

Where have you been king, ive missed your positivity over the summer.

Who was the winner?

Jordan Kerras Southport. I got it wrong Dawson was third on 72, Cameron Ilett & Zac O'Brien 73 (Ilett has been NT Thunder b & F 5 times & Zac is a former Brisbane player). Kerras is 23 and played more games than Dawson who missed a few with injury and one with elevation.

Without having looked at all the rules or having thought about it too much, I think the structure at centre bounces would be three mids, two players behind the ball and two players ahead of the ball. Need 'talls' who are pacey. Lot less ruck contests as any out of bounds plays are kick ins, so....

Mids: Kennedy as 'ruck', Heeney and Hanners
Def: Rampe and Jones
Forwards: Franklin and Rohan

On the bench, for balance, two smalls and one big. Mills, Papley and Aliir or Reid.

What sort of ruckman is Cameron though? Is he a good tap ruckman, and what is he like going forward?

Cameron kicked 36 goals for Claremont in the WAFL in his last season. He is pretty good in front of the sticks and is a very good contested mark. At 204cm he gives us value. Big Sammy has to learn how to do more very quickly or he will be overtaken by the others. I've always been a fan of Sam's But due to injuries and lack of awareness he has lost the plot around the ground. He gets pushed out of contests by players he would just shove out of the way. He needs a good season around the ground and to have a presence up forward to keep his spot. In saying that he is still the best tap ruck we have. But is that enough?

Kennedy and Franklin won't play.
Basically it'll be Rampe, Parker plus a bunch of young speedsters and fringe players.
Guys like Towers (ruck). Agree Rohan and Jones look cut out for the caper.

In 2016 sam was pretty good around the ground. He took some good defensive marks and also managed to get into the play putting his body into the contest. Last year he started late, got pushed off the play too easy and even got out-marked by smaller players. His mobility was down definitely too.
If he starts to play like he did in some of his reserves matches and stated to look that way in 2016 in the seniors he will be sensational. But he needs to make sure he takes his grabs and doesn't get easily pushed off the play.

Franklin, Macca & Grundy were never going to play. They are not even in the mix.
