I think what's gone unmentioned in the whole 'footy is ugly' conversation the flogs in the media are having is that there just hasn't been many good match-ups yet this season. This weekend just gone we had:
Bulldogs (average) vs Carlton (crap)
Geelong (average) vs Sydney (good)
Norf (average) vs Port (good)
GWS (good) vs Brisbane (crap)
Hawthorn (good) vs Saints (crap)
Adelaide (good) vs Suns (average)
Essendon (crap) vs Melbourne (average)
Collingwood (average) vs Richmond (great)
Freo (average) vs West Coast (good)
The top sides probably haven't hit their straps yet (with the exception of Richmond) and usually don't until about a third of the way through the season, when the top 4/6 really separate themselves as contenders from the rest of the comp. The only combinations that make good footy is great vs great, great vs good, or an average-or-crap playing out of their skins. The latter rarely happens, so we're relying on the best sides to play each other to produce the best footy. I suspect we'll start seeing that once those teams come into their best form and start facing off against each other. Til then I wish they'd shut up complaining that a weekend which featured no game with two good teams wasn't exciting to watch. Duh
