That is good to know. There's already a lot of chatter about Weller in comparison to Dow and LDU. I personally could give a stuff about rookies. I want to see the second, third and fourth year players, including Weller, with a proper preseason and time in the weights room. Most importantly, what influence Dew has had over the playing group and a hint of what kind of a gameplan
I want to see some young players just those that have a realistic chance of playing. Seeing Brodie and Scrimshaw for example would be great to see up against a team like Geelong.

Yeah, I agree. I figure Powell and Ballard are investments in the future of the program and would be surprised if they even debuted this season. Jaska, Heron and Dawson even more so. Wigg has been injury interrupted, but I thought Young and Holman being included in AFLX was a sign that they'd be given opportunities to play for a spot in round 1. I expect Ainsworth, Brodie, Bowes, Scrimshaw, and Scheer to play, while Schoenfeld, Willis and Darcy Mac are probably in the same basket as our SANFL recruits.
Fiorini I'd put in with Miller and Wright as essential to the team's growth and development because they need to make the step up from promising to consistently above average, and you can chuck in Weller given he was drafted with Touk and 2MP.
The fact that Dew could pick 26 players that I haven't mentioned and the result would be a balanced and very competitive side with heaps of experience. Depth is finally something we can claim.

According to Solomon JLT1 will be close to our best side. I don't see Scheer, Scrimshaw to be in unless they are killing it on track. It will be interesting to see if Leslie and Thompson get both chance together or in separated games.

If it rains as much as is predicted we're not going to get much of a chance to execute (or see for us fans) new structures and skills. Going to be an incredibly wet weather game.
There was some heavy rain last couple of days in Townsville but forecast for Sat/Sun is not bad especially for Sun. Hopefully, there is a good drainage there.

Thompson and Leslie played together against Norf in Round 13 with May playing a loose backline role, interesting to see how they go without May, who could learn a lot about his backline by having to watch them from the coaches box. I see Young lining up as a rover, although half of this team could have been named there without any structures needing to be changed.

The forward line will likely see vastly different formations as the game goes on. Lemmens will have his chance, but in a life or death situation I'd probably prefer Lindsay Thomas to be taking the shot than young Sean, although he doesn't lack for effort when the ball is in F50. I really like the selection of Sexton in the pocket and we know we'll see Ainsworth there at some point, with Macpherson and Holman also likely to replace Martin and Lyons as the midfield rotates.

Players missing out

Rookies: Wil Powell, Charlie Ballard, Connor Nutting, Brayden Crossley, Jacob Heron, Jacob Dawson, Josh Jaska
2nd years: Jack Scrimshaw
3rd years: Callum Ah Chee, Josh Schoenfeld
4th years: Peter Wright, Harrison Wigg
Veterans: David Swallow, Steven May, Jesse Lonergan

Not surprised at all about the rookies being left out, but thought Lonergan and Schoenfeld would be in the mix. Perhaps Scrimshaw's size and age mean he's been kept back with the 18 year olds?

Wright, Swallow and May are first choice players, I'd have thought, while Ah Chee and Wigg are injured.

I mentioned in here a few weeks ago that I was concerned about Scrimshaw’s lack of development this summer......now I’m a little bit more concerned.

BREAKING NEWS: Tom Lynch has tweaked his hammy and is looking unlikely to play against geelong in the first JLT game. Bad signs for the Gold Coast
