Congrats - recon you have a player there.Been pretty impressive. Hard as at the ball
Still can’t kick.. which is my concern with him, never faulted his pressure which is probably why he and lemmens are in the forwards line for defensive game plan

The Suns became high accumulators last season and it didn't work. I don't see Dew making this team overuse the ball and the early signs support this. The Cats had far far more of the ball and almost the same amount of inside 50s, yet the Suns used the ball better and Lyons was a major part of that - you'll never guess which player had the highest effective disposals... Aaron Hall!Lyons still racks them up for fun.
I would say McPherson replaces Lemmens.I don't have the stats or anything to tell me, but by eye watching it on my television is looked like the majority of our pressure turnovers were caused by Lemmens attacking the Cats players at full throttle. He had a great game. Take him out and we lose a fair chunk of those goals. Hopefully it's just the 2-3 weeker. With Ah Chee still on the sidelines I'm not sure which small replaces him. Perhaps none for the moment with 2MP still to come back.
Speaking of 2MP, I don't know how he fits in that forward group where pressure is mandatory. He chases, but he's got no wheels. More an aerobic beast. At the very least Day is quick off the mark so can provide some defensive cover.
Good thing I'm not making selections! Swallow, May and Barlow to all come back too.
Agreed, and deservingly so. You could always give Jesse Joyce a run around the forward line - can't wait to see the reaction when he gets his first AFL goal. I suspect we are going to have several of those celebrations this year because we didn't have many last year.I would say McPherson replaces Lemmens.
Effort across 4 quarters????Suns won every quarter. Effort was certainly there for the entire game.
McPherson played today as a pressure forward. We had three in Sexton, Lemmens and McPherson. Take out Lemmens and who replaces him? Scheer?I would say McPherson replaces Lemmens.
Who are these players and what have they done with the old Gold Coast Suns?Effort across 4 quarters????
After 9 years- it took a while
Only pre-season but it gives a ray of hope
Players rushing up on the mark, a wave of red and gold sweeping back on the turnover?
Madness
Not taking the piss- but Sam Day in the pocket with Lynch and 2MP at CHF/FF?McPherson played today as a pressure forward. We had three in Sexton, Lemmens and McPherson. Take out Lemmens and who replaces him? Scheer?
Don't mind the positives and difficult crap he had to clean up. Karmichael, Bennell, Dixon/Martin drinking crap, working out of tin sheds and then the Unaccountable duo of Clayton/Ashcroft.I think people underestimate how far Eade took that team backwards in terms of belief, confidence and team unity.
Dew had to rebuilt that for a fair way back and is doing a great job.
Please tell me you didn't just suggest we put our AA calibre CHB at CHF or FF! May is an absolute gun in the D50 and picking off oppo attacks. Leave him there. Not taking the piss- but Sam Day in the pocket with Lynch and may at CHF/FF?
IMO and the opinion of many others at the Club Eade was uninterested, uninvested and lazy.Don't mind the positives and difficult crap he had to clean up. Karmichael, Bennell, Dixon/Martin drinking crap, working out of tin sheds and then the Unaccountable duo of Clayton/Ashcroft.
Cheers. The Suns have a pretty good number #17 who sat out today's game, although sometimes he wears #67. I am one of the small minority (possibly the only one) who thought GC17 should have punted all their nicknames and just kept on with the Seventeeners, like the 76ers and 49ers. Back then, all our players were 17, we were the 17th club, we came 17th in our first season, came 17th of 18 teams in our second season AND in 2017, our Captain plays in #17, our Coach used to play in #17 (thanks for the reminder) and while Gaz played it was all about Him and the other 17.Congrats on the win today guys, might only be a pre season game but plenty to take from it.
I've been a massive Stewart Dew fan since he played for my beloved Dogs in the SANFL and displayed the #17 on my Port strip back in the day.
The call of Dew when he got the pill sent us into a frenzy.
Yeah agree with those points. But I think he was oversold the situation, he wouldn't have taken the gig if he had to clean out culture and develop players. Past 3-4 years we have had significant turnover of decent players but off field positions too. Anyway moving onIMO and the opinion of many others at the Club Eade was uninterested, uninvested and lazy.
I agree with you that he was also surrounded by some duds. But Eade was a very poor coach and player developer IMO.

I think healthy best 22 next week. Need as many games as possible to work on new plan, cohesion. If this was a selection trial and you assume May, Swallow and Wright are already picked, which 7 guys would you drop?
Thompson, Lemmens (due to injury), Bowes, Holman, Day, Rosa, Nicholls
That said, I would put the 6 fit guys back out next week, rest maybe a dozen who don't need the hitout and bring in some of the unlucky omissions for a hitout.

Carn Seventeeners!
