If this was a selection trial and you assume May, Swallow and Wright are already picked, which 7 guys would you drop?
Thompson, Lemmens (due to injury), Bowes, Holman, Day, Rosa, Nicholls

That said, I would put the 6 fit guys back out next week, rest maybe a dozen who don't need the hitout and bring in some of the unlucky omissions for a hitout.
Your forgetting Barlow aswell.

With west coast ruck injuries its looking like a good bet that west coast slide where we want them to. Early days but it might be a good season to be a suns fan.

Dream scenario - we make finals, re-sign Lynchy and West Coast get the wooden spoon. The tears down south would be delicious as we pick up the number 1 junior in the country AND keep Lynch.

I think healthy best 22 next week. Need as many games as possible to work on new plan, cohesion.
Barlow, Scheer, Lonergan, Schoenfeld, Scrimshaw, Spencer and Willis may beg to differ.

Agreed, and deservingly so. You could always give Jesse Joyce a run around the forward line - can't wait to see the reaction when he gets his first AFL goal. I suspect we are going to have several of those celebrations this year because we didn't have many last year.
I believe Joyce got his first in China last year. Nobody even congratulated him.

Holman unlucky although he is still a "rookie" isn't he? I reckon Micky Barlow will come back in as well if fit over Rosa, don't think we can play both of these two old slow blokes, so maybe another player needs to be dropped?
Weller could go forward to replace Lemmens in providing that forward pressure and to get him into the game more?
2MP no absolute guarantee to replace Daysie either? Each has their own positives and negatives. Could all come down to the conditions in Cairns?

Yeah agree with those points. But I think he was oversold the situation, he wouldn't have taken the gig if he had to clean out culture and develop players. Past 3-4 years we have had significant turnover of decent players but off field positions too. Anyway moving on :)
Agree

If i am not mistaken rookie can play anytime now just like any other senior players if they are good enough .

Holman's rookie status doesn't prevent him from playing Round 1 - new rules - I just thought his disposal was poor and it came down to him or Brodie.
Wasn't overly impressed by Day either, but put him in with 2MP and see how they go without Lynch.
Like your idea of Weller going forward, although Scheer should get a chance too.

After JLT1 has anyone's best 22 R1 team changed?
Obviously can't play Nicholls and Witts in the same team, and for me there will be a few key position players not pulling on the Guernsey.

B Harbrow, May, Kolo
HB Hanley, Day, Weller
C Rosa Swallow Barlow
HF Martin Lynch Sexton
F Ainsworth Wright Young
R Witts Fiorini Lyons
Int Hall Miller Rischitelli Bowes

It's quite difficult, off today's performance I would have gone Brodie over Bowes, but R1 is in Cairns and Bowes should get the gig in R1. I've probably missed someone.

Hard to be definitive when they haven't had a proper run. I think Barlow's in and talk of Wright being preferred to 2MP is premature.
One less JLT game makes it difficult especially with a new plan, patterns. I believe Wright was sick a couple of weeks ago?

I believe this is true, although "traditionally" the listed player gets preference unless the rookie's form absolutely dictates they demand a spot? Holman, on today's performance just seems a bit more ready for senior action. Put him in again in JLT2 and see if he can keep it up?

Jack Leslie was close to best defender and easily outpointed Thompson. I don't think Day plays round 1. You've also left out Jesse Joyce to accommodate Young and Weller, who deserve to be picked, so I'm inclined to drop Rosa.

It's a good line of reasoning. I have been thinking that JLT2 would be time to run a different set of players through the same plan and patterns, without showing our early round opponents too much. Either way, the cream has risen and if JLT2 does feature the top 22 or something closely resembling it then I'm happy enough.

I hope we don't regret letting TMac go and retaining RoryT
To be honest I was happy I didn't have to bait my breath for any of McKenzie's turn overs in the D50. And at least Gary Rohan won't kick 5 on Rory.

Our list is not short on quality defenders - our NEAFL back 6 is going to compare to a lot of our teams from last season and that's after the best 6 have been selected for AFL. Mackenzie had to go to allow us to keep our local/Academy players - we can make a whole backline with Joyce, Thompson, Heron, Bowes, Spencer, Nutting.
It is forwards that we lack, with 2 injured to begin the season. Could be looking at having to blood Powell if the small forwards situation gets worse.
