Been a bit quiet over the pre-season - has Thurls got any news or is the place still in lockdown?
she is a very tight ship now even through trading period, Mr Evans doesn't let anything slip

Best news I can tell you is we had 41 on the park today and Dew's engagement and interaction with the players is bringing many of our underdeveloped players to the fore such as KK, Thomson etc who struggled under Rockets "style"

I am hearing nothing but big positivity around how the group and game plan is being received and trained

Sam Day and Micky B are flying after recovering from their injuries

Unsure why we didn't get one or two mature players through the trade period

Any idea if there will be changes to the leadership group? Those things usually mean nothing but would be interesting to see who Dew rates as leaders.

Bit of info to warm the cockles , apparently after draft Dew flew to WA to meet young Will Powell and his family , then on the Sunday flew to SA to do the same to young Ballard , only small things but goes to show how invested he is , i could'nt see Rocket doing such a thing.

Fagan did the same thing. Just doing the little things to build the club culture and take us in the right direction

We are in desperate need of a hard nosed run with player to nullify the oppositions best midfielder.
If Dew goes down that path any ideas on the best suited? I’d try Lonergan. He needs a role somewhere.
Holman may fit that bill, hard nosed, reads the footy well and is quick, not sure about his tank though, loves to tackle and harass too

Suns are actually younger than last the same time last season, and quite a bit less experienced with the departures of Gaz, Shaw, Matera, Brooksby, Hallahan, Davis, Currie, Spindles and whoever else got cut. The remaining players got a year older, yet the replacements are significantly younger than the outgoing listed players.

Lonergan had a crap season and can consider himself lucky to get a new contract. I'd be hoping he could get healthier and consistently good before handing him shutdown run with duties.

Holman could be that player who keeps a close tag, go hard into every contest, and doesn't just keep his opponent quiet but also gathers a reasonable number of possessions himself.

Barlow is a primo run with tagger, so I expect to see him used as a pinch-hitter in the role, although he plays better with the ball while the team is in possession.

Hard to say, given Rischitelli will return to the midfield rotation as well. If those two are gathering 25 to 30, plus Lyons and Rosa doing the same, it lays the platform for Swallow, Hall, Miller, Fiorini and co. to get opportunities in the open and break through the middle to pick out F50 target.

Just thinking about last season and the young list's reliance on Gaz to win, you wonder if Dew's game plan involves over-possessing the ball on half-back and turning the ball over after 20 player involvements. Hanley definitely gave the team a boost when fit, but I recall one game where he buzzed around gathering possessions and making plays for the highlight reel, which just had me ready to chuck a stubbie at the tele as Harbrow's runs were consistently overlooked. We have a dominant ruckman and at one stage in the season had the most clearances in the comp, so you'd think Dew will develop strategies to send the tough nuts into the clinches and win games with superior talent and grit rather than an expansive gameplan that only works until the opponent figures out how to subvert it and have no plan B or enough experience to keep the team in games like the Hawks and Cats of the past 10 seasons (even though we are clearly better than those 2 teams having smashed them into rebuilding mode).

After that novel, Barlow will still be the accumulator.. the other guys don’t rack the ball up like Barlow.

The NEAFL average age will end up at like 19-20 lol :(
And is that bad ?
Our finals performances in the last two years have been driven by Academy players returning from U18 and other duties.
Dawson for example has tagged Hopper and broke even - has also now played two seasons of NEAFL.
I'm not worried about our NEAFL team (other than maybe up forward) - far more worried about our Senior Mids holding their own...

I personally think Rischitelli will play more NEAFL than AFL this year. only a hunch.

Anyone else get the invite to meet the coach and new recruits in a few weeks? Would be a good opportunity to chat to dewie and get an idea of his vision of the 2018 team.

Yeah Yeal I’ll be there. These events have been very carefully organised in the past though and not allowed the opportunity to ask any hard questions of The Coach or Staff.
Don’t get your hopes up of being able to delve below the surface.

C'mon Bods, what would you ask if given the chance? 1 question.
