For one or two conservative calls?! If that’s the case McCarthy should have been given the arse a year or two ago
He is a s**t coach.

What has he dont to get an extension?

He was running the best O in the league with a rookie. He’s had the crappiest QBs and still made playoffs, unlike McCarthy

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Patriots owner Robert Kraft will meet with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady after the season to "hash out their issues."

Belichick is fully expected to be back, but this confirms Kraft plans to have a "clear the air" meeting in the offseason. The Patriots have an unresolved conflict with Brady's trainer and are dealing with some backlash from Belichick for the Jimmy Garoppolo trade. Despite rumors it could be Belichick's last year, the Patriots' power structure is going to remain in place in 2018.

Who picked the backup QB's and was convinced he was he best on the roster?

Its an unnecessary contract extension. He will be fired in 2 years and they will regret this because they will have to buy him out.

The only people who are happy about this are the players and coaches on the 3 other AFC South teams.

Any coach could be fired within 2 years, and if it doesn’t work it, he may well be. DeShaun could be a one year wonder, however his excellent work with him this year rightfully earned him an extension.

Yes 5 years does seem a little excessive but there were other interested teams, and I’m sure one of them would have offered 4-5 years.

Another example....there's no RR for signing QBs because that racial barrier at QB especially got broken. So there wouldn't be a need to have a rule in place anymore. Likewise with coaching, the barrier has been broken league wide now, decades after Al set the bar. No teams are racist anymore at the front office level. So it's not necessary to keep enforcing the rule.
Except Washington

Could also say NE, most white players on a roster year after year
Belicheck outsmarting the league
Go for slower players, forcing the opposition to over pursue

So..... McDaniels to the Colts and Patricia to the Lions, leaves the Giants open for Belichick ;)

----------------

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Lions are expected to hire Patriots DC Matt Patricia as their next head coach.

Patrica had been considered the front-runner to replace Ben McAdoo in East Rutherford, but now it looks like he'll end up in the Motor City, where he'll be reunited with former Patriots scout and current Lions GM Bob Quinn. The 43-year-old has served on Bill Belichick's staff since 2004 including the last six years as New England's defensive coordinator. The Lions won't be able to officially introduce Patricia until the Patriots conclude their postseason run. With the Colts and Giants pursuing OC Josh McDaniels and LBs coach Brian Flores a finalist for the head job in Arizona, New England's coaching staff could look vastly different in 2018.

---------

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels is the "clear favorite" to replace Chuck Pagano as the Colts' next head coach.

McDaniels is also a finalist for the Giants' head-coaching vacancy, though it looks like he's leaning toward joining Andrew Luck in Indianapolis. The 41-year-old didn't have much success in his first head-coaching stint with Denver from 2009-10, but McDaniels has been widely considered among the league's top coordinators throughout his tenure in Foxboro and rightfully deserves another chance. The Colts will have to wait for the Patriots to finish their season before hiring McDaniels. Texans DC Mike Vrabel is the other finalist for the head job in Indy.

Or Saban?

You wonder what he has left to prove in College.

I agree, but he has such a big rep now that all he can do is sully it with another Dolphins type failure. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy to me who would throw that all away just to challenge himself.

Matt Hasselbeck is calling the Pro Bowl as a trial for the MNF job.

Steve Young has already turned down the job.

One more National Title gives him the outright lead for number of college titles won by a HC

Oh, and would also draw him level with legendary college coach Bear Bryant for number of titles won as HC of Alabama
