After years of left wing rule resulting in huge social problems with immigrants, it looks like there's been a massive swing to the Right in Italy.
"A surge for populist and far-right parties in Italy's election could result in a hung parliament with a right-wing alliance likely to win the most votes but no majority after a campaign dominated by anger against immigration.
With over half the ballots from Sunday's vote counted, the right-wing coalition was at 37 percent, including the far-right, eurosceptic League party with 18 percent and media mogul Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia (Go Italy)
party with 14 percent.
That raises the prospect of League leader Matteo Salvini, who has promised to shut down Roma camps, deport hundreds of thousands of migrants and tackle the "danger" of Islam, becoming Italy's next prime minister."

Surely after years of seeing how their charity gets shat on it stands to reason that the population would vote for someone talking like this. Whether or not it happens is another thing entirely. Perhaps now the Med ferry services will dry up.

Italy has more problems than migrants, worse problems even. But hey, never let facts get in the way of racism. Their economy has been s**t for years and thats the first thing that needs fixing. Without the EU they will fall into oblivion and become basically Greece without the EU to help.

Anyhow, my point is that the above posters here are the same racist anti-immigrant people like always telling us that the only problem a country has is mass migration. The social problems are then overblown by the racists and facists. It's funny though that the majority of current problems that Italy and the like have with mass migration from Africa is the power vacuum left behind when they pulled out/were exiled from Africa by the people. They started it, they now suffer it.
Other Euro nations aren't taking in illegals, closed borders.. some like Poland would rather pay a fine to the EU than take them in.
Italy has always been a nation that its people always had to leave... Why should they be the only nation to have to take them?
Give incentives for Italian blooded people in the new world to return instead.

The recession was a disaster from them as was the subsequent economic policies from the then leadership of Berlusconi. Everyone else had the same problems, but the Italians have failed to recover quickly from them like the other EU powerhouse countries.

Humour. Italy's method of maintaining competitiveness was via devaluation. The EURO eliminated that (and now it has to be holding wages down) Not only that but the lower interest rates it brought about have stuffed Italy's banks.
