Toast 2018 Kevin Sheedy Medal - congratulations Lachie Whitfield!

Well done to Whitfield, great season he had and I can see him backing it up next year with a seventh pre season and over 100 games. Davis and Haynes the surprises although expected to be top 10 to have them both top 5 says a lot about how the coaches rate the defence and with Davis this year I am more confident in the backline when Shaw misses or for 2020 after he retires.
And I now need to rethink my high rating on Coniglio's season as he failed to make AA, only polled 11 votes and then 4th in the B+F he still had a great season and depending on midfield rotations he could be that dangerous mid resting forward and kick 30 goals.
Sproule unlucky to miss out on the NEAFL award but I am sure he is happy with his season and hopefully motivation for Stein to hit the track harder and his next year will be interesting as he will need to show he is worthy of a place on the main list

No other mentions of players retiring or being delisted over the night? I can see releases on monday and tuesday then and maybe something on Sunday if the club gives a journo a exclusive
I think Shiel and Lobb will make their decisions over the weekend and Monday could be the announcement day

Just Tim Mohr. Mel said he wouldn't be playing on. Leon Cameron later said 'hope he gets a chance at another club', so I interpret that as GWS will delist him. (Also, no retirement speech for him.)

Bit hard to make a speech at the B&F when you’re at a wedding in Portugal.
No, as in, the club (coach or a player) didn't pay tribute to him, like Jezza did for Griff, plus the comments from Leon etc. If Mohr retired, then I'd expect the club to formally announce it and wax lyrical over what he meant to GWS (foundation player etc). I got that he wan't in the country!

I'd prefer they did it anyway. Because if the reasons you gave. It's not always about the stars. I certainly wish him well finding a club, but I think the game has moved on from the "big bear" defender.

Yeah, I would have too. I guess that retirement is more palatable at a 'happy event' such as B&F than a delisting, so they didn't want to dwell on it there. No doubt, when the delisting is announced, the club will say some good things - but agree it would have meant much more in such a gathering of the club's players & staff to have given Tim a full-on tribute.

The game is harsh. 3 players have to leave each & every year to get new draftees in. Some clubs cut much more than that each year, and players often get cast aside early for the allure of youth. (Although we've probably complained the opposite in regards Stevie J & Griff to a lesser extent as I think he was solid for us this year, albeit not in the guts.) I had figured for the last couple of years that Griff & Mohr would probably go this year. (I had Heater too, before his reworked deal last year extended him the extra year) because previously we were having to cut younger squad members. But you can do that with grace and dignity for the players.

Interesting to see that after Wardy and Shaw (excluding Griffen and Deledio who got most of their top 10s from playing at their previous club) with 8 top 10 showings in the B+F (Shaw 5 i think as a GWS player), Shiel comes in second with 6 top 10s ahead of Cogs, Scully, Jezza and Greene. Shows he is indeed one of our best and most consistent performers over the years. Hope he stays but if he leaves, this more than justifies that oppo teams need to pay highly for a contracted, proven, durable and required quality player.

I know it would have already been mentioned but if so I must echo how amazing it was to hear Lachie make it perfectly clear that he is more than happy to be a one club player. What a Stella lad !!

If he is more than happy hurry up and sign him long term ffs!!!!!
