2018 LFFL Awards Night

God bless the humble tackler. Many of you are not the best footballers, but let's be honest, as long as you're chasing tail, that's all we care about. It was hard to pick the tacklers this year given the lack of a clear standout, but in the end, we went with the way the votes did, and the substantial weeks that stood out, for Dayne Zorko to make the side, ahead of Jack Steele.

Maxy just taking the piss now. Although it was funny to see the likes of Dawson Simpson and Jamie MacMillan polling multiple votes... ah the fun at the end of a dead rubber vote count.

2018 LFFL Awards Night

To complete our LFFL Team of the Year for 2018, we have our emergencies. It was hardly in doubt that Tom Mitchell slots into the utility spot, while Adam Treloar was one of few shining lights in a disastrous season for the Animals who had their worst finish to a season ever. Nonetheless, Treloar has earned a spot on the emergencies list after a consistent year.

Is it Grundy? It's GRUNDY! In what can only be described as a two-horse race, Brodie Grundy has held off Tom Mitchell in the final round, holding him off with the pair 30-29 heading into Round 11. Grundy's best of the round performance - one ahead of Mitchell -was enough to see him claim the glory. There were never any other real challengers and both have laid claim to stunning seasons.

LFFL Team of the Year

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2018 LFFL Team of the Year. The Cheetahs had four representatives, as did the Mozzies, while South West Dragons had three, City Oval Plovers, South-Eastern Polar Bears and Outback Meerkats had two, Broome Bears, The Ladyboys, Draconian Knights and Animals run wild had one each. Ten of the 12 teams had representatives and considering the other two were byes, it was an even team contribution. The Ladyboys were unlucky, but had to make many changes throughout the season which stopped them from having the same player in the one position at times, similar to the Plovers.

B: Rory Laird (SEPB)

Wow. Max Gawn scored 25 out of a possible 33 votes…. 75.8 per cent of the votes. Of the 66 votes available in Max Gawn games, Gawn polled 37.8 per cent of the votes. Jake Lloyd snuck into second there to pip teammate Patrick Cripps and fill out the podium. Rory Laird was on 13 ahead of forward, Tom Hawkins, while Nat Fyfe's injury and suspensions might have slowed him. Jack Darling and Steele Sidebottom were thereabouts and the new rules helped James Sicily and Alex Witherden poll well.

That concludes our awards night! I know it wasn't as impressive as past years, but time constraints have restricted me, and wanted to celebrate the year. I'll now prepare the off-season stuff to get cracking for 2019!

Sorry Tom, pretty sure it was my Semester 1 school reports that lead to a few weeks of non-submissions. Clearly, I've cost you the coveted title.

Utility of the Year couldn't even get a gig as starting Utility in the Team of the Year !:)

Good stuff Pie, always a heap of work!
