The draw is out and we play the AFL clubs 4 times and the other 6 clubs once. (It was 3 times against the AFL clubs this year, plus 9 other games.) So should make for a more even comp, given the Swans, Lions, Suns and Giants should knock each other out a bit. Makes it harder to make finals and better for our development. Imagine it's been done to address the dissatisfaction of the local clubs.

First game against the NT Thunder at TIO stadium April 7, which means televised. Always great to get a look at the new lads early.

Love the games at Tio. Such a shame we only play there once a year.

I've heard that there were a lot of guys looking to leave NEAFL and go back to QAFL this coming season as the travel and getting smashed by AFL sides was grating quite a bit. QAFL has improved a fair bit in the last 12-24 months and its just a bit much for a fair few. Really the NEAFL will slowly position itself to either a) players who still want to see if they can get drafted, and the success of guys getting picked up from sides like redlands and aspley is the drawcard there and b) guys who are happy to make the sacrifices to play at the highest level they're able to.

They will lose those guys who had the ability to play at that level, but the logistics of it have just become too hard to deal with. The changes may slow the leak of these sort of guys, but it won't really stop it. Question will be, are the academies supplying enough young guys to fill the holes. The signing announcements from a lot of the teams have been guys coming up from down south, especially Tassie. Guess if you're looking to get picked up as a mature ager, the last 4-5 drafts would indicate that playing NEAFL footy is about a good a chance of getting noticed as any.

I was going to ask how many of the academy kids are going in to the NEAFL.

I wonder if a salary cap could be implemented? Not sure how it could be funded though but getting a decent game payment might encourage some of the nations best un drafted talents from coming up here and improving the NEAFL.

I think all the players have been given that weekend off ahead of the season - believe they're off from next Wednesday to Sunday.

Club rates him too. Did not expect him to be available at the pick he was. He really does project as a Tom Lynch type, just comes down to development. Toby is a smart kid and have no doubt he'll give his career a red hot crack.

Very keen to know how jack frost goes today, if playing. I still hold some hope he can play a role in the firsts as a shut down defender.
