He's hardly had a clean bill of health this preseason and during the season proper. There's been all this talk about how he looks like he's still not right and moving slow yet if you ignore his round 1 game where he was on field for about a quarter he's averaging 6 tackles a game (ranked 3rd), 20 pressure acts (3rd) including 11 defensive half pressure acts (2nd), nearly 3 clearances (6th) and 7 CP (~10th). He does a fair bit of blocking and trying to play the supporting role to whoever is nearby, be it Cripps, Ed, Fish, etc.

As the season goes on and he builds some strength into his shoulder, some stability in his ankle and builds his tank back up he should improve all those metrics considerably. From memory at the draft combine he finished right up the top in the goal kicking tests and his overhead marking was seen as possibly his biggest strength. Getting his shoulder and ankle right will go a long way in adding those aspects back to his game, both things we haven't really seen from him yet at Carlton. I think he's going to be a great soldier in the midfield for us for years to come, just give him some time.
yeah I agree he's had fitness issues and will no doubt get better.

But still can't say he's shown something when he hasn't...

Yeah probably right mate just trying to think how we can boltser our midfield stocks and at least make our vfl side competitiv
If looking at really cheap mature players could go for Anthony miles and horlin-smith.

Ellis yolman is doing alright for adelaide with their injuries. As is hugh greenwood.

Mitch Wallis would cost more but not a crazy amount.

Agree with Our 2018 & 19 1st Rd picks are sacrosant , untouchable certain to become A graders. 2019 draft is strong too. This has been circulating for a while now.
I wouldn't think that our '19 first would be untouchable at all, for the quality of a Shiel.
The majority of the group should be playing together in '19, with a quality cherry or two on top, ready to go in '20

BTW: There's no certainty in draftees becoming A-Graders at all. Don't buy into that theory.

Different circumstances though. At GWS he played to a different structure and had a shitload of gun mids supporting him.

Going to be very different here at Carlton.
Doesn't mean he hasn't shown signs as a player. A young one that has battled injuries at that.

Everyone looks better in a good team and worse in a poor team...so it just means Kennedy will improve as our team improves, like most of our players.

Well there's been talk about trading our 2019 1st for Wines (mostly by me :p but I'm not the only one).

I just think he's young enough to be around for the next decade with Cripps and Kennedy and it really bolsters that inside mid department.

If we get Shiel we'll be set.

Cripps, Wines and Kennedy as inside mids.

Rankine, Dow and Shiel acceleration and drive.

SPS skillset, LOB running ability, Fisher hunger for the contest all there as well and that is an extremely well balanced midfield.

If only it were that simple...
