The only way I'd want Collins is if we trade Jones to Sydney, which wouldn't surprise me as we may do very well out of that trade.
Even so, if Weitering is to now settle into a back post, we have to start handing over that responsibility.

I know we've had injuries and that has stifled the progress of Marchbank & Macreadie, but the sooner we take off the kid gloves, the better.
Not against that, certainly sits within the realms of a SOS like deal

Trade jones ??
Lol not this year
It's a perfect time to trade Jones, even though if he was at Sydney, he may look like a superstar.
Sydney aren't going to follow on with Grundy and desperately require a key back. We need more mids. Jones for Lloyd would be an easy deal.

If we are indeed chasing Collins, then you have to ask yourself why?
We have Jones. We will have Macreadie coming on and then there's Weitering & Marchbank, even if Rowe and ASilvagni are to be moved on.

We can't just keep stocking up on back-men for the fun of it. You have to eventually consolidate.

Maybe Glass-McCasker?

Not sure why we'd worry too much about LeBois.
Can understand giving him another rookie year, only for the fact we haven't another nimble, small goal-kicker.
Certainly wouldn't be giving him another year on the strength of game-performances though. Training performances look good but the two are poles apart.

I'd be happy should we give Penrith a rookie spot.
Has some rough edges but can find the ball, does take the game on and tackles as though his life depends on it.
I have a soft spot for Penrith. Kicking needs to improve. Heaps. Can stick a tackle though. Quick and pretty hard at it.

Will be interesting to see how we function without him in the side and properly test the 'Liam stuffs up everyone else's game' hypothesis.

I may be in the minority here, but I'm not convinced we should be moving on ASOS any more.
I'd sooner move on Rowe, not chase Collins and keep Alex, if indeed he is over his injury.
Why? Obviously makes an impact on the track and plays it as hard as anyone. He scares the young guys in the right way. I like that.
The problem with ASOS is that for the last 3 years he has been constantly injured, he might get over this injury but how long until the next one. He seems like a great guy to have around, so employ him as a coach or a NB player. Even if fit he is not an automatic selection and his output next year will be significantly less than his few good games for us in 2017.

It definitely will. I'm a bit in the "Jones is a problem" camp, but it's not that I can't see he contributes. As with most guys, he does some things really well and tries hard, but he also brings some deficiencies that hurt. I think it's nigh on impossible to build a defensive SYSTEM with Jones playing a key role in it. But we'll see, hey. I'm looking for Weiters to be more confident and flourish.

I also see Jones and Weitering clashing in terms of style. Weitering is methodical, calculated and structured whereas Jones is chaotic, unpredictable and dangerous to everyone in his vicinity.

Will be an interesting 5 weeks.

The champion data ratings consistently mark jones as one of the best key defenders in the comp, which means his positive contributions far outweigh his negative ones in the backline. Of course those ratings aren't definitive in determining how good or bad a player is, but I think they are a pretty good indicator that people tend to focus on the negatives he does in the same way people overly focus on the positives Rance does. Jones is a very good Backman. Not without flaws, but very good nonetheless. Trading him would be a big call.

CD had Jack Sinclair on the wing in their team of the year for 2017, which is just silly. I am fully on-board with using stats and player ratings as an indicator, but one must also use your eyes and see the impact an individual has on the overall.

Jones definitely does plenty of good. I am of the view - which may well be wrong - we can build a better backline without him and his presence is disrupting Weitering's development (in particular).

What champion data doesn't measure is the opportunity cost to the players around him and to the overall defensive system. Provided Weiters and Marchbank stay on the park, the rest of season 2018 will be telling.

there are no other teams worthy
Would trade Jones if there were a few clubs asking for him. If they only offered pick 50 I would tell them to GAGF but if it was a mid round second round pick or something like Aaron Hall for Jones plus Nick Graham I would do it.

His value is really hard to assess. GC have consistently NOT played him, so how valuable can he be? Speaking of.... what did Michael Barlow do to Stu Dew? Plenty of teams could find a role for him for a year, I would have thought.

Not sure but I have a funny feeling Hall maybe a free agent so maybe do not even need to trade for him.

I reckon that would be an horrendous trade. A 28yo, injury prone, one way runner that has NO defensive side to his game for one of the best intercept marking defenders in the league.
That's a no from me dawg...

Is he a net negative or a net positive? I still can't decide.
