Soapy V If you know tell me and if you don't, can you find out: What are the contract statuses of Mullett, O'Shea and Lobbe?
The others are definitely right, including Simpson but generally speaking:

Mullett: We'd give 2 years to DFA. Not necessarily but usually.
O'Shea: To my reckoning, it's 2 years for anyone picked up in the PSD. same as for the ND.
Lobbe: Did he have only one year left on his contract, when he came to us?

I'd like us not to be silly enough to keep paying players out. That's simply money down the drain and reflects that a mistake has been made.
Those 3 are out of contract end of this year.

I actually think we already have the tall defenders we need. Weiters, McReadie, and Marchbank are a formidable future defence.
Think we are one younger KPD short, as I believe Marchbank is only a 3rd tall and not considering Jones

But that can be addressed late in the draft with a Collins type or a kid in Grundy

I still think we are a lock down defender short.... been saying that for a while.

There are definitely multiple possibilities that could play out with the versatility of some of our defenders. Between Weiters, Marchbank, Plowman, Macreadie im pretty confident in our tall defensive stocks.

I like that group, but I still believe Plowman and Marchbank are 3rd talls. As it is, Marchbank has been trialed as a defensive winger of late and Macreadie could play a similar role

All about versatility

So looks like trading Liam Jones has a 75/25 split in opinion in favour of getting some decent players or draft picks in our favour. I too think he is surplus to our need regardless of how hard he has worked. Will always have his "off" games. I Think this guy has got the best he could out of himself and has earned some currency behind his name. Good on him with all the critisism over the years. Not sure if he will be at carlton next year or some other team to help our cause but this man has truly gained my respect as a football player

100%. Just personal preference for my own vision I would love us to find a lockdown tall, takes the number 1 forward every week and allows our more attacking defensive weapons to thrive.

I also love trialling Marchbank higher up the ground in that wingman role.

Agree on the lockdown defender

What many people don't realise, Marchbank is a very handy forward, hope they give him some games there before the end of the year

I think the rest of the league are seeing what we are seeing and he has zero trade value, for this reason we may as well keep him around.

The champion data ratings consistently mark jones as one of the best key defenders in the comp, which means his positive contributions far outweigh his negative ones in the backline. Of course those ratings aren't definitive in determining how good or bad a player is, but I think they are a pretty good indicator that people tend to focus on the negatives he does in the same way people overly focus on the positives Rance does. Jones is a very good Backman. Not without flaws, but very good nonetheless. Trading him would be a big call.
If Jones gets us Lloyd from Sydney I would be happy.

Sydney need a tall KPD and have the systems and structures to make us really regret losing Jones, but we could really use Lloyd to help lead our young talls.

It could be one of those things that work out well for both teams in the long run. We'd be putting a lot of pressure on Rowe as he declines as we wait for the like of Weitering, Marchbank and Macreadie to develop.

What is his defensive stuff like, yep he has kicked goals at that level but we have had a few of them, can he give us any pressure when the other team brings it out. Got to have half forwards that can do both in my opinion and that is why we need to replace Wright/Lamb etc...asap. Not easy to find them I grant you.
Considering none of our current fwds apply any defensive pressure.... i’d Just settle for someone that can kick a bloody goal, or 2!

We lack a small defender who beats his man. None of Doc, Simmo or Byrne do this, Willa more a flanker who is good at the one on ones.

2020 ...

Plowman. Macreadie. x-marks-the-spot
Marchbank. Weitering. Doc.

Willa on the wing pushing back. O’Brien on the other wing.

We have the run if they stay fit.

Just have to add to the midfield group, and perhaps another backup defender with Rowe, ASOS and Simmo gone by then. We’ll see if Schumacher comes on.

As I have said before I expect around 8-12 changes this year. I expect all of our younger players to be on the list for another season.

Total changes will very much depend upon what we bring in during trade/FA period.

Given our list status and what we are trying to achieve I believe these names are the most likely to go

Lamb
Rowe or ASOS
Mullett
O'Shea
Graham
Thomas
JGM
Shaw

Borderline

Kerridge
Wright
Lobbe

That is effectively a group of players that are at the end of had enough chances. No real loss in any of them

Replace them with better FA's Trades and draftees and it should really improve our list

I think Lobbe may stay in support of Phillips & Kruezer
One of Rowe or ASOS to stay unless we get someone like Collins
I think both Rowe and ASOS have done their dash. The bodies are spent.

JGM won’t make it.

Thomas, Shaw and O’Shea we can surely upgrade on.

Lobbe stays as backup for one more year. Kreuzer and Phillips often injured, McKay we would rather play forward more and TDK hopefully gets a few games next year. Casboult a forward who rucks ...

That leaves a group of Mullett, Lamb, Graham, Kerridge and Wright.

I would keep Wright another year for leadership in the VFL.

Who steps up and displaces Lamb and Wright from the Senior 22? Garlett? Resting midfielder?

Mullett, Lamb, Kerridge and Graham are all around that 24yo mark that the club severely lacks in. I suspect the VFL team would be rather bad without Kerridge and / or Graham. Lamb would be handy backup. Mullett in a better team may serve us well.

For me I'd be keeping Kerridge 100%.
Thomas and Lobbe offer a spot on the rookie list and play them if form warrants also possibly Lamb and Rowe. Wright gets a one year contract.
Delist all rookies but offer ASOS a role in the VFL as captain and do everything we can to keep Graham.
Thomas, O'Shea, Lobbe, Mullet, Graham, Rowe, Lamb all off the main list so that makes room to bring in 7 players.
