You'd think they'd probably fall over backwards to do it.

I know I certainly would!

Considering worst case scenario it would actually be a coup.

The Eagles might consider it a win for a player that is leaving regardless (perhaps)

Likewise for Geelong.

Im struggling to believe the Cats can afford Gaff. Unless they would be heavily backloading his contract.

I know we like to talk up these kids but all are speculative thus far and if i was a betting man id say only 2-3 of those guys will kick on.

Of all the players named, only Fisher has shown anything to suggest a long term career is in the offing. The others have shown nothing more than a glimpse of potential, if at all.

Now that the Suns want Levi, how many first-round picks can we get? (Assuming Lynch compensation is 3)
#24 + Levi --> #18 (GC)(2)
PP, #20 (3)
#1 --> #7, #14, #21 (Adelaide)(4)
#26, #21 --> #12 (Sydney)(5), Draft Points
Future 1st --> #15, #25, #45 (GWS)(6)

We now have:
7, 12, 14, 15, 18, 20, 25, 45, 66, 73

#25, Future 2nd --> #16, #34 (Port)(7)
#34, #45, #66 --> #27, #43 (GC)
Future 3rd, Future 4th --> #40 (Brisbane)
#27, #40, #43, #73 (Collingwood)(8) Draft Points

We now have:
7, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20

Delist: Graham Lamb Rowe Wright
Rookie list: Kerridge, Thomas

Should make enough room for our 8 first-round draft picks :p

Is it not the same as using a top 10 pick on a kid who has played zero games?

Hmmm yes it is ... without the injury history ..... we have enough injury problems at Carlton.

I reckon we'd be able to fit him in the cap.

Personally I reckon he should go to you guys.

Maybe a 3 team trade would make sense?

WC trade
Gaff
#34

WC receive
#12

GEE trade
Kelly
Smith
#12

GEE receive
Darcy
#6

FRE trade
Darcy
#6

FRE receive
Kelly
Smith
#19
#27

CAR trade
#19
#27

CAR receive
Gaff
#34

24 + Levi --> #18 (GC)(2)

Possible and i think this is how we could trade Cas, he won't get us a pick on its own but could get us an upgrade, might not be that one but maybe pick 66 and Cas for GC pick 40.

#1 --> #7, #14, #21 (Adelaide)

I think you're dreaming here, i think Adelaide will want pick 1 but its poor list management to offer 3 players/picks for 1, 2 is ok but not 3, maybe their 2nd going back.

#26, #21 --> #12 (Sydney)(5), Draft Points

Possible and i like it, its only viable for the Swans if they make finals, if they miss then they will be very close to the range of Blakey.

Future 1st --> #15, #25, #45 (GWS)(6)

Unless Gws are trading out other players, i really doubt they will trade out of the first 3 rounds of a strong draft.

#25, Future 2nd --> #16, #34 (Port)(7)
#34, #45, #66 --> #27, #43 (GC)
Future 3rd, Future 4th --> #40 (Brisbane)
#27, #40, #43, #73 (Collingwood)(8) Draft Points

If you trade a future 1st you aren't able to trade 2nds, 3rds or 4ths.

Why this makes sense IMO.

Assuming the best pick WC can get for Gaff is a late first, using him to move from the late second round to 12 makes sense.

WC move back into the first round and alleviate salary cap pressure.

Geelong move Kelly to Freo and upgrade from #12 to #6.

Darcy is a hard trade for Freo but swapping him for Zac Smith and 19 + 27 is a win for win now Freo.

Geelong get their ruck of the future.

Carlton give up #19 and downgrade 7 spots from #27 to #34 but it's well worth it for quite arguably the best wingman in the game.

With no Nic Nat and no Gaff i don't see WC finishing top 4 after finals. This would put Gaffs compo at pick 15 after you factor in GC compo for Lynch.

Yes I am proposing that.

Where do you see the Eagles finishing?

Getting 12 would be good but i don't think what they will get in compo which will be much higher, if they finish 5th they will end up with pick 15, i wouldn't be trading pick 34 to climb 3 places.

Any chance we see more clubs matching offers to force trades? 15 for Gaff is not good compo.

It's pure quality now. 4 picks inside Top 25, BSOS for late pick and 4-5 quality players (between 22-26 years old) that can step straight into most best 22's would be the ideal scenario

As they say in the classics: "Its showtime". SOS has done a pretty fair job till now, but it is this draft that will define this dynasty.

I reckon we can get Gaff + Shiel this trading season only if we can give assurances to both players they will be coming together to help Cripps and the club. We need one more though - will be delighted with Hannebery will be happy with Tyson. Levi will sure to be trade bait for a club that wants a cheap forward/ruck. Money is on Eagles as I think they really do need one for back up.

We should not target players that cannot control their temptation to throw a punch....

The hardest part of the reset for SOS is to now get the missing pieces.

I’ve banged on about helping our kids over the next few years before they get disenchanted and lost, but it’s more than that. You need class and leadership around them, not just bigger bodies who offer little.
It’s also practically impossible to become a ‘destination club’ by winning next to no games and convincing the Gaffs, Shields and Kelly’s to come.

Will be interesting to see how this unfolds but I’m not at all confident will get any top shelf FA this year.

I reckon it's next year when those deals will happen. If we can get some good mature players around the 25 year old range to help with development and depth that will be good. Names like Dahlhaus Lester Miles will be handy on top of another 5-6 talented draftees. Lloyd and/or Gaff would be great.

Next year is about getting our list healthy and more games into our young players. If that happens I believe we will win around 6-8 games with the improvement in our young list.

Then players like Kelly will see clearly the direction we are heading and look at us seriously as a club to come to. We will have the money as well
