I wonder where Kieran Collins is at with the Bulldogs, I liked him in his draft year thought we would take him with pick 20 but we took Cunners and he went 26 to the Dogs. Was a match made in heaven with Weits at TAC club level and has hardly played a game for the dogs I think only 1 game in 2016????
I think we should trade for him

I game in 3 years I think?

Maybe, but what gives any confidence he's a good option? I think at draft time the knock was lack of broad skillset and concern he might have been a bit of a man-child who could struggle to translate his game to the AFL. Several years on he can't get a game in a side not exactly flush with A+ tall options, even whilst Adams is down injured, kept out by a 35yo (Morris), a 18yo (Naughton) and a re-tread who can't kick (Trenners). Not to be all glass-half-empty, and I have nothing against the kid, but it doesn't sound like he's playing very good football. He'd wanna be cheap.

As long as he is an upgrade on Rowe I will take it :D

Looking at Saturday's 22 and thinking ahead to round 1 (with a full list *touch wood* before trade/fa/draft acquisitions) I've got about 9 changes, 41% of the 22. That'll do wonders for us (and the NBs).

Thomas > Docherty
Lobbe > Kreuzer
Wright > Fisher
Silvagni > Weitering
Graham > Kennedy
Lamb > Plowman
Rowe > Jones/Macreadie
Kerridge > Williamson
Polson > Cuningham

When you think about Samo, Harry, Kennedy, Lang & Pickett all having interrupted preseasons (or a big layoff at the start of the season proper) they all should be able to step up if they get a clean run at it.

If you can count Samo, Harry, Lang & Pickett as half a change each (as in them coming in fit will be an upgrade on themselves now) then we're at 11 changes.

Fingers crossed Doc, Plow, Kreuz, Willo, Cuners, Fisher, Jones all get over their season ending afflictions with no hiccups or setbacks.

Then you've probably got one of Walsh/Smith/Lukosius/Rankine to throw into the mix along with perhaps a couple of Valente/Bytel/etc and/or Brodie/Setterfield/McGovern/etc depending on what we do with our 2nds. Maybe a Fasolo/Dahlhaus/Wallis. I'm not considering any Shiel/Gaff/etc 'top line' players coming across at this stage. Regardless, that's already waaaaay better than what we've been putting out on the park each week this year. The cohesion may be an issue early, having so many changes and no stability in the match day team, but it should improve week by week and hopefully we can finish the year strongly. We should do alright in terms of our draw next year which may help a touch too. If we can show something by seasons end, then we're so much more appealing to someone like Shiel as a FA next year who'll be more confident he's getting himself into a club heading in the right direction (and hopefully fast!).

If the AFL come to the party with a mid-first-round priority pick, that may make a Shiel-trade much more appealing. Presumably they drop those picks in just ahead of the finalists first picks.

Carlton get a mid-first-round PP.
Gold Coast get Band 1 compo for Lynch and a mid-first-round PP.

1 - Carlton
2 - Gold Coast
3 - Gold Coast
4 - Brisbane
5 - St Kilda
6 - Bulldogs
7 - Fremantle
8 - Adelaide
9 - Essendon
10 - North Melbourne
11 - Geelong
12 - Carlton (PP)
13 - Gold Coast (PP)
14 - Sydney
etc.
26 - Carlton
28 - Carlton

Send 26 and 28 to Sydney for 14. They get plenty of extra points for Blakey.
12 and 14 go to GWS for Shiel and Setterfield. They can use the picks or trade up via St Kilda or Freo who have nothing between their first picks and 50+.
Maybe even 1 to Brisbane for 4 and 24 if they're keen on Walsh.

Shiel
Setterfield
4 - Smith
24 - McHenry
~60 - Silvagni
Rookie - Hickmott
Free Agent - Fasolo
Free Agent - Dahlhaus?

2019 first rounder intact to go after Cerra or similar next year.
We can dream.

If we get nine wins I will sing the Beatles song ad nauseum
Number nine , Number nine....

A fit list and it’s very possible. What we need then is cohesion. Vital

We have potentially a great defence. Just needs to ply together. Same with the forward line.

Get some additions to the midfield like Walsh Brodie Miles and a much improved Dow SPS Fisher Cuningham Kennedy w Cripps and it’s a good side that will get better

IMO Dahlhaus would be a great addition. Mature, can play small forward & mid. Tough and can defend. Free Agent and I reckon he is better than Fasolo
His strength is being able to play both FWD and MID. Won't have to play him 70% mid and throwing him forward, we would have confidence given he made his mark up there for the Doggies. He was a cult player with those dreads he used to have - attacking the ball and player with pressure and being handy around goal.

What happened to him this year? Form and news about him seems to have dropped off a cliff. Is it injuries?

Only we would think a bloke who has kicked 2 goals for the year is a genuine upgrade to our forward line options!

Been playing pure inside midfield this year. Can kick a goal and has and is also averaging 4.5 tackles a game. A three year deal with most up front won't hurt us. Not a star but a very good player and would help us IMO

I was actually thinking that. I had another good look at our list. Given comments about not many changes etc I think 8-10 is about it.

It could be very simple this year. Get 3-4 mature bodies via FA or cheap. Names like Fasolo Dahlhaus Miles Lester etc

Cerra Lloyd Setterfield or Gaff would be awesome but unlikely. Although I live in hope until I hear otherwise. Kelly has to be the major target next year

Then we could easily go to the draft with picks 1 (Walsh), 19 (PP - Caldwell), 25 (Clark) & 28 (McHenry). Our group of young players then looks awesome and is pretty set. BSOS late or rookie then a couple of other rookies.

A McVeigh type for a year would be great as well.

IMO that would really add depth and solidity to our list and allows 2019/20 to target the really elite players will see the great future we have.

Great post. On top of that if names like Lamb Silvagni Wright Kerridge (who you have being replaced) then a Walsh etc step up and surprise next year we are even a better side.

As you said I believe the biggest improvement next will come from our 3-4th year players.

Continuity and competition for spots (a strong reserves) is also absolutely vital to our improvement

I think its the best way to go soap. Gaff wont happen. Lloyd unlikely. Setterfield i want. Not sure Brodie is a sensible move since he is contracted. Same again with shiel.

If we added dahlhous, Faz, roughie etc via fa.
A couple of mature agers in Nelson, Blakey, Palmer, Wilson, Fisher with late picks.
Add walsh and a few other quality draft kids with the pp and 2nds, we instantly get better. Not 1000x better, but very competitive. We add quality matures all across the park and some great talent still.

I agree about the 2019 trade period also. Its where we go all in for players like kelly and Cerra. Add shiel as a fa and 2020 looks unbelieveable. Just need to hold our nerve 1 more year.

Agree, do that and have some continuity and 8-10 wins is very achievable in 2019. That will make us more of a destination club and we will have the money to not only land a Kelly but a Shiel Setterfield or Cerra as well.
