We will take the comp by storm next year. Dow, Fisher and Cripps will be the best midfielders in the comp. We will have the most troublesome forward line. Docherty captain in defence - the general. Barring injuries, prem. Samo Seaton the list goes on. Robert Walls in sunnies and beard on the balcony first day of spring training, ominous. That is all!

We don’t need anyone other than Walsh. Can we pass on the rest of the list spots and just pick up sticks and sos to pinch hit in the northern blues?

I would still like one more inside midfielder with burst speed like Paddy Dow.

If we're not taking Smith this year, I hope we're eyeing off a similar player in next years draft.

I would like to see Cuningham/Williamson and Pickett all fit and playing their best - because they are all potential A grade players with Factor X next to their names. I think Carlton has had some kind of seriously bad luck with injury and maybe / probably injury management going on - time to get a couple of years of continuity into these kids. Rate them all as highly as I do Fisher/Dow and LoB.

For the first time in a decade I can't point a finger at any player on the list and say they are never gunna make it spuds. Huge change for Carlton.

Correct, complimentary midfield players will be the key. Speed, endurance , toughness and execution think Ratten Bradley Williams and Camporeale

Love it......:thumbsu:

Future 1st for Bailey Smith anyone?

I'd definitely consider it. It just depends on how highly next years crop of midfielders are rated.

The question is whether Smith is worth a top 4 pick in the 2019 draft.

Maybe someone with a strong handle on the up and coming prospects could shed some light.

I know people have talked about Matt Rowell, but he seems to be a Matt Kennedy type, a beast around the contest but not overly quick. Doesn't sound like the type of player we need.

Would do this in a heartbeat, but can't see the opportunity presenting itself.

Not sure we'd take Smith if we did get another early 1st but a future midfield of Cripps, Dow, SPS, Fisher, LOB, Setterfield, Walsh, Smith and Kennedy..........

Opportunity may present itself at GC's pick 6 if Smith is available (pending AFL granting permission as we don't have a future second). They may swap in hope of a higher pick in the 2019 draft and to spread their picks.

With Smith, I see our midfield in batches of three:

Cripps, Kennedy and Setterfield as the bulls.
Dow, Smith and Cuningham as the balanced players with explosive pace.
Walsh, O'brien and Fisher as our outside runners. SPS should ideally be a 4th in this combination but needs to work on his endurance.

I dare say we've got a player in mind for the 2019 draft. Maybe Noah Anderson or Hayden Young.

Reckon next years 1st rounder will be earmarked for an established A grader.
Barrass has recently suggested there are 3 players in our sights ...

Much prefer to go to the draft than bring in a big fish.

Draft your stars and trade for needs.

I know people will refer to Hawthorn trading in stars and winning flags, but when you really look at it, their core group of stars in Rioli, Roughead, Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis and Franklin to an extent were all recruited through the draft.

After Walsh this year weve pretty much drafted our core group.
The persuit of Shiel with our 2019 1st rounder as the payment suggests the club think its time to add the necessary established A grade talent as has been planned for all along ...

Coniglio will would be the perfect add...hope we get him. Hits the scoreboard would round us out so well.

Even more attractive is his RFA status.
Will be extremely hot property with 18 desperate suitors ...
He’ll be getting the dollars thrown at him. But We must be In reasonable shape to front end something, we’d be an attractive proposition given his age as well. Hope so. Think he’d be an excellent fit

He is a pure FA too, so he would be our number 1 target as we could keep our first. We
can offer him plently, but must front load and be mindful of the cap going forward. We are gunna have a lot of good players that will be getting big offers elsewhere down the track.
