It’s looking likely to be an off-season with minimal activity for Freo as we have bugger all to play with.

We may as well put our 2019 2nd pick on the table and see what best offers we can generate for the 2018 draft (ie multiple 3rd round picks for eg.).

I wouldn’t get too overly excited about Shai Bolton but would be fine with us getting him as a Delisted FA. He is more than just one foot out the door.

My best case scenario is we get decently beaten in our last two games and Bulldogs absolutely smash Carlton and come close to (or even beat) Richmond seeing us fall one spot lower. Then GCS force Richmond/Collingwood to trade for Lynch meaning we end up with pick 5. Then Bailey Smith come on down.

Especially with half a dozen priority and compensation picks still to be inserted. If you believe all the rumours our pick #6 might become a 3rd rounder by the time AFL try and deal with Carlton, Gold Coast and St Kilda.
There is no way St Kilda get a 1st round priority pick. GC would get one through Lynch, I will be pissed if they give Carlton one. They'd just ruin the kid anyway like they do most of their top draft picks

No one should be getting a priority pick.

Carlton traded Gibbs last year for picks when they knew they were going to be shite. Also have Docherty coming back from injury who’s an instant at least B Grade player (was probably A Grade pre-injury).

Gold Coast have had that many picks and will get a top three pick for Lynch which will take their total number of first rounders up to three. They hardly need another one.

St Kilda as much as I’d like them to be aren’t in that same level of trouble and it’s laughable it’s being talked about tbh.

Carlton and GC will probably get priority picks but they will be after the first round. Since we dont have a 2nd or 3rd round pick that has very little impact ion us.

No doubt they aren’t getting first round picks imo. After the first round at best.

If they get them they should be forced to trade them or lose them. They are in this position because they lack leadership. Another pick 18-20 spent on an 18 year old will diddly squat.

Personally hope they all get nothing.

Seems very likely that Carlton and GCS will get priority picks. These picks will be at the end of first round - similar to Brisbane a couple of years ago (not in the first round and certainly not in the top 10). Caroline Wilson on footy classified made a comment about St Kilda being a basket case (correct on that) and that they will get a pick as well. There are at least 15 other clubs (probably 17) that will have none of that. Not going to happen for St Kilda.

The good news for all these priority and compo picks won’t have much bearing on us because we don’t have a second or third round pick and looks like our academy guys will go later in the draft.

I’m not advocating for big losses. I didn’t word myself well above. I expect us to get soundly beaten. I also see the Bulldogs are a good chance to topple Richmond in the last round with them gearing up for finals. They are already sending a few off with niggles for arthroscopes like Kane Lambert etc.

Agreed, but I also reckon we are in with a good chance in the last game against Collingwood for the same reason.
Add to that I expect the boys to have a real dig being Johnson’s last game, maybe even a couple of others playing their last game .... Sandi - no word yet.
We lose this week.
Bullies win, even points.
Next week who knows, it may be percentage between the Bullies and us, either way I can’t see a big difference pick wise - one place.
BUT.... I would love to beat the Pies in last game to give the young guys a platform going into the pre-season and the confidence of beating a top 4 team.

Interesting part of Dogdorn's article

"Ballantyne, 31, has been retained as Fremantle continue to develop small forward specialists Adam Cerra, Stefan Giro, Mitch Crowden and Bailey Banfield who were all drafted onto the Dockers list last November."

Bailey Banfield is a very good small forward for a midfielder!!

He's right as often as he's wrong
