Man some of the whinging on the last few pages about Richmond and the GF, sounds like some people are really bitter still.

The GF being at the MCG isn't a new concept and is not going to change any time soon. Rightly or wrongly, the AFL has locked in the GF at the MCG for many more years to come.

Claiming that the Crows would have won the GF last year if it was played at AO will not change anything. As much as I was gutted by the result last year, we need to build a bridge and get over it. The result is done and can't be changed.

Hawks and Melbourne talked merger. Footscray and Fitzroy also talked merger. North should have gone North to Gold Coast and St Kilda to Tassie
This is how it should of happened.
1987: Bulldogs, St.kilda, North, Fitzroy, Melbourne, moved to the VFA. Tassie, West Coast, Sydney, Adelaide along with 6 vic big boys (10 teams)
1992: Fremantle, Brisbane join (12 teams)
1997: Port Power, 3rd WA team (14 teams)

8 non vic plus the six big boys from vic.

In a perfect world, we would have a team in the NT, Tassie and in Canberra.

As you mentioned all those teams were so close to folding. Its a pity actually, would have made for a far superior competition.
WA screwed it all up by going early, not waiting like we did in SA.

It wasnt the wafl. An independent private company was set up : Indian-Pacific and they were going to contract players no matter if the wafl gave the blessing or not. I think the dog track was going to be the home of the Eagles until the wafl , as the sanfl did , gave in to the pressure and need for control

You missed my point.

We were good enough to lead (even without our best Footy) then our guys (players and coaches) lost it. That is our clubs fault.

Maybe it would have been easier at AO. However that is irrelevant in the context of the situation. We were getting the job down at the G untill our guys stopped working and let Richmond run all over us.

I am not saying the situation is just. I don't agree with the way it is at all. I agree Richmond are poor away from the G (it is quite comical hiw different they are away from that ground) and yes we probably would have belted them in an AO Grand Final.

Just like Geelong would have beaten them if that Final was play at KP.

The league we joined does not work that way. As you say many might lose interest. But that won't change anything.

Our club just has to rise above the handicap if we want to win the flag. Accept it and just be better prepared if we make it again.

Can you imagine how cool a AFL comp would be with a NT, Tassie and Canberra team?

Yep
I always think back to Monica Seles

Lunatics out there - only takes one

Take a stand now and wipe it out
Wow I don't condone what the guy did but there's a big difference between a pat on the bum and a knife in the back.
Do we really think cracking down on touching players, meritorious as it is, will stop attempted murder by a psychotic? I doubt the threat of taking his or her membership away will be much of a deterrent for someone in that frame of mind.

For all of footy’s advantages, this is something the A league and even the NBL do better. Sure there isn’t a team in every state and territory, but they both feel a heck of a lot more like actual national competitions.

From the article ...

Gil McLachlan noted many spectators had flocked to hospitality tents and much of the crowd had been missed by the cameras.
"The game was sold out, it was raining and there's hospitality marquees behind the grandstands ... that's what happens," the AFL chief said after the match.
"People are critical but we're playing in Shanghai with 10,500 people ... this was a paddock 18 months ago.
So the "hospitality tents" are tarps?
Not only do tarps make the ground look full, they also hide all the people inside them!
Truly marvellous the tarp is.

They are so clever.

The hosting rights in the A-League is the shining light with this. Our GF at Adelaide Oval was a breath of fresh air for sport living South Australian’s, that Newcastle hosted their GF at their own stadium and not in Sydney Just backs it up.

I don’t condone it at all - but didn’t a port flog wave a flag on one of our players face when he was lining up for goal ? Jenkins ? Walker ???? There’s a fence and everyone should be behind it - simple

But ....flog on the Bay said it was sexual assault ...

What does that make what Sex Pest Pepper do then ?
God they’re idiots
Love it how they have memories like goldfish and right after the SPP sexual assault they go and put their foot in it showing their hypocrisy. So easy to run rings around their logic.

The West Coast Eagles were initially formed when the local West Australian Football League applied in 1986 to enter a West Australian team in the Victorian Football League due to concerns with the constant drain of the league's best players to Victoria. It was hoped that this would reinvigorate falling interest in the sport in Western Australia due to the fact that few of the best players in the land played in the local competition. The VFL, having its own financial problems, agreed to the proposal to gain financial relief, as well as the creation of an expansion team in Brisbane (the Brisbane Bears), with both teams to enter the competition for the 1987 season.

Indian Pacific was floated to raise money and investment

I’m the same. It’s pervasive through the whole setup, from tribunal to commentating to umpires to the majority of AFL media. Beginning to wear pretty thin.
The last two GFs, in particular the AFL VFL aided and abetted Richmond-fest GF has made this season so much better for me.

Now I don’t get so worked up over a win or a loss because I know in the end, no matter how good the team is, you’ll be pushing shit up hill to get the win in the GF. That is of course if you get past a resident of the MCG on your way to the GF. It’s farcical.

You just can’t keep taking a pounding from the umpires like we did, when it all the while builds confidence within a team like Richmond and keeps them in touch. It’s exponential, and eventually you get broken.
