However, to address your question. Their reason for lying would be so that the nation wide press doesn't report that we have a piss poor fitness/medical department that has caused us to lose half of our list to soft tissue injuries that are directly related to our fitness program. Its a bad look for our club.
Hmmmm. That just doesn't stack up. They're lying about something that is just going to be revealed two days later?
There is nothing gained by that. The motivation makes no sense. They don't "get away" with it.
Thats all well and good, but surely even you can see that they have stuffed up the messaging. Take for instance the Pyke and Crouch handling over his OP. 2 days after Pyke denies OP, Crouch comes out and says he has it. Even if Pyke wasn't lying - the correct thing would be for Pyke to come out 2 days later and announce the OP during a press conference. "We did some more testing, it turns out new information changed the diagnosis and OP has been confirmed".
Its often more about how and when the information is presented rather than what the actual information is.
So your point is - Pyke says what he knows to be true, but they find out more information two days later. Pyke should then hold a SECOND press conference, to say "we found out something more."
Why is Pyke holding press conferences about our injuries? If he's asked a question, sure - but it's not his responsibility to have a running commentary with the media. The club has someone else doing that. If NO ONE subsequently spoke to the media, sure - but the right person actually did.
