Interested to hear on the radio just now that Western Australia police are looking into the Gaff incident as a potential assault. I've always thought Barry Hall should have been charged for the Staker punch - something so unequivocally outside the rules of the game and so dangerously violent shouldn't be condoned as somehow being a part of the physical contest.
I didn’t see the game just the incident.
Is provocation a defence in an assault case?

Well if what you dished out was similar then maybe. So say someone brings a knife and you hit them across the arm with a metal pipe, broke their arm and they dropped the knife , then you would be OK but if you continued to belt the person over the head with the metal pipe after the person was disarmed, as the god lord would have wanted you to, then deep shit time.

In Gaffs case, being annoyed by a player scragging you all match is no excuse for what happened

I wonder if Gaff was trying to break his jaw and knock his teeth loose.
I guess only he knows what his intentions were. Stupid as it was.

I now recant all my criticism of him for his time at West coast and his lacking an opinion over the tippett scandal

We should show compassion for the intellectually handicapped

Seriously this latest effort Is as bad as trump and Hillary trading insults
Judd initially presents as reasonably intelligent but the more you hear him the more you realise how wrong that is . Has absolutely zero to offer.

You do the crime etc but I reckon he was intending to hit him low and not in the head. you look at the angle of the punch and it was aimed down towards his stomach.

Soft spot for Brisbane

I agree. It looks like he's aiming to either knock the arms away or strike in the chest but Brayshaw's body goes a bit lower unexpectedly. It's still 6+ games but I feel some sympathy for Gaff.

Very unlucky boy is Gaff.
He’s not unlucky. Brayshaw is unlucky.

Gaff deliberately chose to throw a punch at someone off the ball. Regardless of where he meant to hit him, he still intended to hurt him.

Punching people is not part of football and Gaff is solely responsible for whatever punishment he gets.

Gaff will get his punishment amd it will be severe... The afl dont want to look soft and will want to make a statement ...

This whole thing is a bit overblown tbh. ..

Onfield incident . .. Lets just move on.

Any chance we could recruit gaff? Id love for one of our boys to show some aggression ... Its a pity the only player we got that does it is a 1st year player.

Thing is he isn't an aggressive player. First time hes weve been reported and is generally seen as a very outside, almost bruise free player.

You can bet your life on the fact he wont fo it again

The sad thing is, he and the Brayshaw lads are mates - played golf last week together apparently. I reckon Brayshaw had probably been niggling him all day (as mates and footballers do) and he just snapped. I don't believe he intended to hit him in the jaw, but he did, so he has to wear the consequences of that.

I don't think there should be a send off rule but the penalty should help offset the disadvantage of the affected team.

Eg let's say Gaff gets 7 weeks for his hit. The tribunal can rule that because Brayshaw was put out of the game, 3 of those weeks must be served when Gaff plays Fremantle.

Four weeks now and his next 3 matches against Freo, whenever they fall.

Yep gun footballer but dull as sh*t.

Explains it all earlier this year when he wanted a security guard fired for not letting him into a JLT game for free... the words "do you know who I am" were spoken.

It's always irked me - a player getting suspended for ending your player's game, only serves to help the next team his team plays which is also your enemy. Player suspension should be however many games given, and then also the offender sits out the next game against the club he disadvantaged on the day in the first place.

Have to laugh, some random tradie in Frankston does the same thing and he's a national disgrace.

But because Gaff plays footy it's "get around him, he's a good bloke really...didn't mean to punch him in the face and cause serious injury"

F...that. Shameful action, hope he gets 12.
Chinese/Russian athletes on the gear are evil and cheats. Ban em for life.

Essendon players are heroes fighting an injustice and had to suffer a terrible ordeal whilst suspended.

Yep. Salisbury North football club kicked out of the whole league for player indiscretions.

But Gaff is remorseful so don't overreact. Oh yeah, and he had a round of golf with the guy he hit so that has to count for something.
