Actually he's a pretty good bloke. Does a lot of community work in the Barossa and with the homeless. Missus ran a few events for his company

well he does look homeless so would fit in with them

shouldn't have asked for an autograph when getting food, thats a bit rude

No.

It did not cost them Mitchell that’s wrong. Horse doesn’t rate him

It did not cost them Nankervis either, he was a reserves player looking for opportunity

And chance of trading for players is a nebulous nothing thing

It did cost them Mumford. That was a pretty big loss
You don’t think the loss of COLA had an impact?

I also don’t buy the fact that they didn’t want to keep Mitchell. Yes, his number of possessions is overrated as he handballs a lot more than your average player, but he’d still be in the top 5 midfielders at Sydney. They just weren’t willing to pay him anything close to what Hawthorn was.

I had forgotten about Mumford. That loss was a big one at the time.

I think, and it’s only my opinion, but I think they knew cola was virtually dead so they tried to force one last roll of the dice in before the gate bolted shut

They did it because cola was about to go, not that cola went because they did it

Yeah, I don’t know. Other clubs, especially Collingwood had complained about it previously quite a bit and there had been no movement from the AFL.

Taking Buddy from the AFL’s new baby (GWS) was just poking the bear too hard. Plus they got a trading ban for a year and Buddy’s contract had to fit into their new lower cap.

I vaguely remember an interview with Paul Roos in which he commented that the club leaders got together when the AFL looked like taking COLA away. They chose to keep COLA longer than necessary and take the trade sanctions offered by the AFL as a result. That gave them time to set up their academy. They poured every spare dollar they had into that academy. And it bore fruit for them.

Here's a juicy one. My Port friend at work says Justin Westoff is a f**khead. He and his Port mate saw him at a sushi store in Welland, asked for his autograph and Westoff told them to f**k off. Charming fellow.
I spent about 1/2 an hour with him at work.
He was quiet as a mouse and I thought he was a bit of a twig. I was expecting a more imposing body type.
He commanded no presence at all.
I found it easier to understand how he can just coast around with no urgency. A softer type character you could say.

Oh why oh why couldn’t the Chinese have sunk it?

I KNOW

i'd written something like, Japan sunk the Edsell, China sunk the Power, but that just lumps in all Asian people together which is kinda racist, especially since i don't think the Chinese and Japanese like each other very much, which is kinda racist of them too... so i deleted it

Rude? I dunno about that. He's chosen the way of life as a minor celebrity and some of that entails getting spoken to by strangers...
I'm no celebrity but I've spent a fair chunk of my life as a lead singer in cover bands and that experience has taught me that when you're in the public spotlight lots of people tend to talk to you as if they've known you for years. Most people are nice but you get some dicks as well. IMO if you choose a public life you have to expect a bit more attention to yourself. After the posts I've read here though I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He might've just had a bad day....we all have them I guess.

So basically it’s the Victorian teams getting an armchair ride from the AFL, just as I suspected. How many times does Collingwood leave Victoria nowadays? Has that changed now that they’re shit?

FAKE EDIT: Just checked, 5 times this year. Slight improvement.

Matt Crouch is at #9. Jesse Hogan, Christian Petracca and Jake Lever, who haven't achieved much of anything yet in their careers are all ahead of him.
The article should be titled "Top 10 AFL players under 23 according to Ben Guthrie". It has about as much significance as a random BigFooty poster's list.
