They should really be just playing him primarily out of a pocket and trying to nurse him through the season, the moment that I saw Geelong trying to play him in the middle I had a feeling that he wasn't going to last very long.
Exactly. Could probably contribute substantially in the forward pocket role while minimising risk of injury.

Did you mean Renault? Or is Port's sponsorship situation that dire that they're losing sponsors before they've even signed?
If Rucci is to be believed they did lose a sponsor before they signed.

The one he claims was dependent on the ALP being returned to power.

What on earth are Port doing with Rockliff?

I have said it this whole time, he is a tough nut inside mid and that's the only role that he can play ala Matt Crouch.

The only way Port will get the best out of him is by having him replace Boak, Ebert or Wines and play him in the middle. Rockliff will only be valuable if you actually have a role for him that plays to his strengths.

I have no idea why they're paying a guy 700k+, but don't seem to have a role for him.

Boak does rotate through the middle.

Unlike Rockliff, Boak can also be effective on the half forward line. Rockliff is very one dimensional as a player and can't play anywhere else which is why it makes no sense to me to see what Port are doing with him.

He's not a bad forward pocket but they've got better ones. He looks miles off it fitness wise which has always been his achilles heel

So they bring in a guy who's best footy is played in the coal face, but they're playing him in a forward pocket ?

I wonder if this is another case of the club recruiting by name rather than need?

They thought they got Zorko....

Said it before the season they would misuse him.

Janus was telling us how they will interchange Rocky with Robbie and Wingard through the middle and forward.
Rocky is the kind of mid who thrives on the rythym of pack to pack scrimmage work. Not being thrown to a different role every five minutes.

So Ollie has given Port the impression he’s definately going to stay but he’s holding out to get market offers to gauge his worth and then he’ll tell Port to pay him that much. Doesn’t that undermine the whole negotiation process? Kind of hard to get top price when Port already know you’re staying and giggle at you when your agent says pay him x amount or he’s leaving!

Or the agent can use the media to suggest Port aren't offering enough coin for a guy who wants to stay and are undervaluing him.

I remember hearing all pre season that he'll be a half forward flank/inside mid from their supporters.

Are you telling me he can't play HFF?

Ha just read Ruccis rip in Advertiser in library. Rockliff has a side strain and any way Gibbs had Jacobs rucking to him all his time at Carlton

Apparently

As usual Janus wouldn't know anything about football even if one hit him in the head.

Rocky is another Matt Crouch and Tom Mitchell type player, not as good as them but in a similar mould. They don't hurt you with the ball, however they feed it to someone who does hurt you. Anyone who thought that Rocky was going to be some sort of attacking threat that was going to play in the forward line (like Janus) is a moron.

Port supporters tend to live in a silo and seemingly have little to now knowledge of football outside of Alberton. Rockliff is another one in a long list of examples where Port supporters have no idea about players until they play for Port, reminds me of when Port supporters were acting like Ryder was going to be the next Buddy at full forward for the Power :$
