I'd take the Port salary cap story with a grain of salt. Remember there's a reason that they need Melbourne to pay part of Jack Watts' salary this year.

Is that so they can pay Lobbe his $500,000
Bahaha

Paying an SANFL player half a mill a year ! What idiot came up with that ?

Plus if we are only paying 95% of the salary cap this season we have 3 years to spend that unused cap.

Great news for Ollie and his manager.

It is pretty obvious the slight change in tune from him is all about getting as much of that extra coin you guys have.

Lever and his manager tried it with us but we held firm. Now he is at Melbourne. Time will tell who made the right decision.

Fine by me. Nothing wrong with using your salary cap.
Yeah it all good.

Nothing wrong with paying multiple players big coin and topping up your list with cheap Melbourne cast offs.

Inspired list management strategy.

If they were all on big coin how are we at most 15th in our salary cap spend? Our list management strategy wasn't too dissimilar to yours. Lose 2 fairly regular best 22 players and pick up a solid player from perennially shit teams and a 30 year old reject from North.

Boak didn't. I feel Ollies career will mirror his. Nice and comfortable as a well paid fan favourite and captain. But never a regular AA calibre player.

Gray yes. Very much so.

I think Gray has developed despite the coaching

Best thing he did for his talent were his knee injuries meaning he spent more time in rehab and less time around their development coaches.

You can believe that if you want.

However we also negotiated a trade to get pick 12 for Cameron. You guys traded out Trengove, Impey, Ah Chee, Lobbe, Young and Austin for peanuts. All of these guys played depth roles last year. And you replaced them with kids and discards.

Tbf the ones we lost played as many games last year as all of the players we brought in.

Given it's Melbourne, and it's Jack Watts, it's just as likely Melbourne couldn't get him out the door unless they agreed to pay part of his salary.

And again, it's amazing that both the Adelaide clubs managed to pick up former #1 draft picks in the same off-season.

Seriously, how often do #1's move, let alone two in the same off-season, to the same city?

Cue hilarious comparisons between the fortunes of the two this season...

Your recruiting was ad hoc at best grabbing who was free once you realized how many were shooting through

It's not like you targeted any of those players specifically

Even now on your board there is dissention in the ranks on where you are going to play these "discards " and while still trying to get games into your draft picks from 3 years ago

You courted Motlop, Watts, Trengove too you know?

Obviously - if that's true and I have my doubts since our focus was Gibbs and draft picks- you went harder faster and higher.
Reeks of desperation .
Our recruiting and trading has been superb the last few years.

When was the last time a player from your rookie list made AA?

We didn't need top ups that badly

Is there any proof of this somewhere? Even a disreputable journalist?

Watts recently said in an interview about his chance of getting to be at Port and was excited to hear that Adelaide were looking at picking up Trengove, and was even happier when Port picked him up

Adelaide definitely chased Motlop. Only an idiot would actually believe we had any interest in Trengove or Watts. OK, maybe not an idiot - just someone who is extremely gullible, and believed the word of a troll with no AFC contacts (i.e. Rucci).

We would have talked to them. We'd be silly not to do it for the right price.

Clearly it wasn't right.
