Not going home. Not going for money. Not going due to lack of opportunity. Not going for better commercial prospects. Not going for success.

Pretty much all the usual reasons didn't apply

My reading between the lines is that he's going to be closer to parasites that will expect good portions of his family income.

You guys throw around words like "star", "required player" and "major sponsor" like they don't have any meaning at all.
Lobbe called a legend by their social media whilst getting his Life Membership one day, traded to Carlton (and paying some of his salary to offload him) the next.

I've had similar thoughts, intact I voted Cameron on the Tippett thread poll (I think it was) as the worst defection simply because it was so wishy washy.

People say players don't owe clubs for drafting them but in this case it was a little different. We plucked him from obscurity, played him, developed him. Had a great mentor in Betts. His last home game was infront of 50k at the best venue in the land.

Nah I'd like to play for Brisbane.

You'd think money played a part though - he'd be a lot further up the pecking order there, surely. I've also heard second hand
that Pyke was annoyed at the reasoning- and that was as it was reported- to have his mates around to hang out with during the week.

To be fair, it’s “joint major sponsor”
New sponsor?

Wasn't it mostly pressure from his partner to move?

Depending on how pushy she was with it, that could be pretty hard to live with, especially if you sorta kinda feel the same way.

If you sorta kinda feel the same way, then it shouldn't come down to partner pressure. You'd arrive at the conclusion before that.

Should’ve got a new partner. Not hard to do for a footballer in this state. He could also try wearing the pants seeing as though he was no doubt the main breadwinner.

If you're 50/50 on something, then their input would help you make a decision.

So, no compromise or discussion then?

Who else here is looking forward to ports recruiting failing. I honestly dont rate any of the players they picked up except maybe Rockliff and even he isnt the most elite midfielder in the comp.

It will either shine gloriously or it will fail spectacularly.

I think Rockliff is the pick of the bunch. Motlop will have more shyte games than great. Watts is the one that really fascinates me. He may shine away from the pressure of Melbourne ( the club and city) or he may continue into mediocrity.

I think the year will end in a +1 0 -1

Port will fly out of the blocks IMO

Early season wins, possibly even the first Showdown. Lots of back-slapping, contracts extended for all, Koch weighing in with his opinions on all things football as self appointed statesman. Fans and club start giving advice to others sharing the secrets of their success. This thread is flooded.

Then a couple of close losses at home.

Cracks appear. They drop a game to a cellar dwellar away. Couple of the broken down recruits they brought in pick up injuries.

Wheels fall off.

Hilarity ensues.

Nah, let's derail them with a belting in the 1st showdown. ;)

The Port recruits, because of sheer numbers, makes them hard to analyse as a team.
Team personnel will be vastly different.
It might work. It might fail miserably.
No one knows just how good/bad they are going to be.
I think they will at least make the 8. Having said that, if they were to crash and burn it would not be surprising either.

Could take a while for the Magpies team to gel with Thomas, Trengove & McKenzie joining the great Jimmy Toumpus & Co.

I'm not even sure he was a need for them...unless, they knew Ollie would be leaving. Motlop will add some pace to their team (every few weeks when he turns up), but Watts will be suitably Melbourne-like in his performances this year.

The rest...lol

Or:

They lose their first 2 games, and we win by 120+. The fans start the 'I don't think we Ken' and call for the coach to be sacked.
A loss to GC in China is the final straw, and the club sacks Hinkley less than 6m after signing him to a 3 year extension claiming he has lost the playing group. Rockliff and Polec seen throwing punches during a training session, Dixon is involved in an off field incident and Koch again claims 'we are Port Adelaide' just days before a salary cap breach is uncovered by the AFL resulting in first round draft picks being stripped in 2018. Their only win for the year comes against Melbourne who go through the season winless, handing the Adelaide Crows pick 1 in 2018.

I'm with you, except for the showdown win. While Don's bitch is at the helm at Port Adelaide I do not see them winning a showdown.

I think Motlop will be good, near AA squad season

Rockliff will be good, but people will still wonder why he’s not stat slutting like he did at Brisbane. He’ll have a good year but will be undervalued due to unrealistic expectations

The rest will suck dog balls.

Wait a minute, I distinctly remember you taking up Watts when he was at Melbourne and mocking anyone who said he was a spud....now all of a sudden you’re on the spud train. Flip flopper.
