Port have a history of being played. This was their big one:

The VFL wanted a South Australian team, so they threw out the baited hook to Norwood and Port.
Port jumped with an MOU.
SANFL forced into response.
VFL gets an Adelaide team the following season.

That left Port in the SANFL, wondering why the VFL didn't love them, because they were the super-duperest footy club to ever footy.

It wasn’t only Foley or State Labour, it’s the SACA, PAFC and AFL in collusion, in the end it hasn’t been a bad outcome but the white anting of the SANFL and AFC is abhorrent.
I’m not at all happy of the State Govt handouts to Port or AFL clubs full stop, I’m certainly not happy with Xenophon and Johansen promising $6m-7m to Port, it’s a clincher that I won’t vote for them. It’s a disgraceful waste of money and absolutely unnecessary. That said I also don’t see anything that resembles forward thinking coming from Marshall and the Libs.

If Port were smart, there’d have been a Port team and a Norwood team in the AFL from 1992 on.

But of course they weren’t.

I don't know how long the GC vs Port Power game is in China for but it looks like its for more than 1 year.

I reckon this will be the last year of a proper game and will just be AFLX from next year on

From reports, ticket sales are well down on last year’s numbers for the China game

The biggest problem with an annual overseas game would obviously be getting a decent crowd to attend year in year out, especially if the two clubs involved are a working class area club and a new low supporter base club.

Last year was the big 'experience' year. For those Port fans that went it will be part of their memories for a long time

Can’t just blame that on Port, it’s largely the VFL not wanting to respect a truely national competition and other state competitions’ right to demand what happens in a national comp and then the **** up that was the corporation that formed the West Coast Eagles. The gig was up after the WAFL was duped, Port just fell for the last sucker punch.
