And yet $$$'s from WA continue to prop up the useless Vic clubs.
And to make it worse those same useless Victorian clubs also continue to hog the Friday night games - looking at Carlton here, and continue to be given exclusive rights to Anzac Day, Good Friday etc. It is AFL in name only unfortunately.

40 years is a long time.

I can just as easily see the AFL holding the MCC to it's contract and insisting on having the ground less than half full while the MCC would prefer to be hosting a sell-out for some new and exciting sport that has not even been invented yet. or alternatively, the AFL being held to contract instead of playing the final at a 150,000 seater stadium in another city that has not even been built yet.

There is no way the current arrangement stands for 40 years. The league will look entirely different in 10 years let alone 40 years. There will be a a shift when the AFL begins to be filled up with non-victorian club legends. At the moment we still have the tail-end of the broke 'golden age' VFL 80s era. Why does no one in Victoria make eye contact when they talk to you? Are they all aspergers because of their 'raw' Animal feces tap water?

Hey hang on right there buddy. The 2017 NAB draft was hosted in NSW ok. If thats not considered gracious by the AFL and a step in the right direction then nothing is!

Imagine broadcasts and TVs in 30-35 years

VR headset view from anywhere in the stadium.

Entirely enclosed grounds with cameras around the edges instead of stands. Perfect conditions for play every time, perfect light, perfect sound.

The computer could even learn when the crowd would roar and play it for you

Yeah. Strap yourself into a comfy armchair and put on your 3D goggles or something. Fly around the stadium in 3D or follow your favouritye player around the ground... something like that. All rendered in perfect real time realistic 3D imaging.

Damn - beaten by 2 minutes. *shakes fist at #Tayl0r *

I'm on the verge of cancelling my AFL Silver membership due to this new MCG GF deal. We don't even hear about it until it's a done deal. Why they could not seek submissions from non-Vic supporters or something, I don't know. Do they even consult the non-Vic clubs? I seriously thought that after 2037, other stadiums might get a look in, or better yet, the AFL might re-negotiate the GF deal with MCG to make it fairer to other stadiums and non-Vic supporters. It really is the VFL, the 'A' is just tokenism. I don't know any other way to show my disgust, other than to remove my dollars from their coffers. A strongly worded email perhaps? I doubt they'd read it. Any other suggestions?

I know some other person will get my spot, probably a Pricktorian and they won't miss my money, but at least I can spend my money on something with a few more ethics, like live-sheep exports or testing cosmetics on animals.

I still love FFC but I am seriously disenchanted with the VFL.

The answer is 3 game Grand Final series, with the team finishing higher on the Ladder getting the first game, then the MCG getting the second game and the away team (assuming they're not an MCG tenant) getting the third game (if needed)*.

*or some other combination of Home/Away mix so that the team highest on the ladder gets some advantage and the MCG gets at least one Grand Final game.

It will never change while the Vic clubs outnumber the non vic sides .We need the Saints , Norths to fold and the expansion clubs be non Vic so they hold the balance of power. While the Vic clubs hold the majority vote nothing will ever change.
The Non-Vic clubs hold the majority of the TV advertising revenue.

Greater Sydney has a bigger TV viewership than almost the rest of the country combined.

Once the New stadiums are built in Sydney, they (If they're clever) should push for the AFL GF and use TV rights as the leverage.

It shits me off that it costs the non Vic thousands of bucks in accommodation and air fares to get to the GF while the Vic's get there for the price of an admission ticket. The majority of non Vic supporters will never get to see a GF live. The GF should be played in all states. Why should all the revenue from tourist dollars be Vic dollars.

Yep, although if it is a lower ranked non vic team vs a vic team they would hopefully go away 1st, followed by 2 MCG games. That way you can lock in the MCG for every 2nd game GF no matter the teams and both supporter bases would get a look in without travelling.

40 years is a long time

Look how much the league changed from 1980-now

Basically blacklisting other venues seems a bit much imo. By all means have an agreement made where the MCG is the preferred venue for grand finals barring another suitable venue - but to exclusively use it seems odd when the competition is trying to promote growth. It's not like there's another suitable venue (realistically) and the deal doesn't incentivise other states to build anything, so when the next deal runs out the AFL has can say "well no-one built one"

I doubt WA or SA would want to build a ~100k stadium if there's not going to be any potential for it to be used for GF day for at least another 40 years. It's like the FIFA world cup - there's no point building capacity stadium unless you know you're hosting - the AFL has basically shut off any potential for other venues as no-one would want to put $$$ in to something that has no guarantee of being used in the future
You also only have 20 years to build it before the AFL will sign another extension. Short sighted by the AFL as there is nothing else out there for the MCG to fill it with.

It'll probably be an 18 a side robot league controlled by real people to get rid of injuries. Nerds will be the new jocks. The bump will be reborn.
