Pick 14 Adelaide: Riley Collier-Dawkins

This is a no brainer for me as he fits Adelaide's need for a breakaway mid, and he is also in my Top 10 personal rankings. He was prolly gonna be my Pick at 9 until Max King fell there and i couldn't pass him up.

I just love the combination of what RCD already is, what his potential is and how proven developers Adelaide can develop him. Over a couple of Championships games and the TAC GF i saw RCD do about 5 different facets of AFL footy to an elite level. Was he the best player?...no. Was he the most ready to go?...no. But can he be an elite AFL player if developed right?...imo yes.

In time, he will be a midfielder first, but someone with great versatility who can play forward and off halfback and also he got swung into the ruck at 3/4 time in the GF when his team needed a lift and he gave a wholehearted effort.

Maybe a bit of a risk but a much better proposition for Adelaide than Hately, I feel.

Good pick.

Pick 11 for Port..Sydney Stack

A bit of a reach I know, but he fits our needs. His accumulation in the midfield, speed and the ability to play round 1 (has played in the wafl successfully already) forced me to pick him. He's got talent to spare also.

Coona Blues you're up.

I think a few Port fans might microwave their membership if that selection actually did eventuate.

Interesting selection though. Definitely has potential but a massive reach at pick 11.

Kind of reminiscent of the way Carlton used to draft prior to SOS.

For me Stack just ticks all the boxes I was looking for, so it was an easy choice.

Kind of like how we reached for a big lanky wa midfielder a few years back..

Pick 15: Bid on Tarryn Thomas (Norf NGA)

Expecting Norf to match.

Donstuie
Norf matches bid for Tarryn Thomas.

If I'm not mistaken 42, 47 and 48 should cover it with some change coming back?

7. TARRYN THOMAS

Midfielder, 189cm, 73kg, North Launceston

Buckenara says: An exciting playmaker, Thomas looks to be a very good prospect. Watch him closely through the midfield – he’s a smart decision-maker and a very clever player. He’s available to North Melbourne as a Next Generation Academy player.

Plays like: Shaun Burgoyne (Hawthorn)

I would have bid on Ben Silvagni for the laughs. :)

If Carlton did somehow go with Smith as #1, I'd be somewhat disappointed initially but then appreciate there's a very good reason for doing so.
If we kept pick one only to draft Smith, I would think criticism should rightfully come aplenty, given we could have had Smith plus a latter pick via GCS at worst.

Pick 16: Bid on Isaac Quaynor (Collingwood NGA)

Like this kid. Solid, reliable and brilliant disposal by foot. Type of player that fits the Pies MO perfectly. Unfortunately they've set themselves up well for bids on Quaynor & Kelly.

HARKER you're up.
Costs 41, 43 and 48, returning 16, 53 and 104

Got no choice really, although I would have liked the pick instead of the player.

Collingwood takes Quaynor @ #16

Someone else is up now. Of course: The Smoking Gun

You've already given 104 to Nord jimmae. Or am I missing another pick shift?
Everybody keeps shifting up, but the total number of picks stays the same. Pick 104 will always be the last pick given the number of senior list spots currently open.

Pick 17: Luke Valente, 186cm 80kg, 8/5/2000, Norwood/SA, Balanced Mid

AFL ready balanced mid who, barring injury, should be right to go Round 1. Was terrific in the AFL academy game where his where his brilliant stoppage work set up many of the Academy side's goals in the 2nd half. Backed it up with sensational U18 National Carnival where he conducted the South Australian Midfield Orchestra with aplomb. Probably understands the game as well, if not better, than any other prospect in this draft pool. His leadership skills are on an entirely different level to anyone else in this draft, including Walsh & Smith, and the way he can organise his midfield around a stoppage often ends up engineering a positive outcome for his side. He's tough, courageous and along with his proven ball-winning skills he's exactly the type of character a rebuilding Freo could use.

No you didn't and neither did Donstuie. Due to the other trades they did the only way they could accumulate enough points was to take a truckload of arse-end picks. Even if someone put a ridiculous bid at Pick 7 on Quaynor you'd still essentially be forced to match it or you end up with a fistful of fourth Rounders. They won't all be bad of course, but it's less than ideal.
