All are project players. Brander is the one who might get a game or two but needs to bulk up.

If you are looking for cheap Fantasy players who will play Rioli, Ryan, Venables and Ah chee will all get plenty of opportunities. All four if fit could play round 1.

Thanks for the reply. No interest in fantasy. I just like these players and was wondering how they were looking.

Also the club needs to sort out McGovern's deal first as it will be bigger than Gaff's.

It would be a blow to lose Gaff but not a massive one. Fantasic accumulator and runs all day, great link player but Id like to see a taller winger played and one with a bit more hurt factor on the score board.

If Gaff did go we have the likes of Ah chee, Petra, O Allen, Darling, Duggan, Cole, Rotham or Venables.
Gaff has shown great loyalty to the club in the past. Seems like a real stand up fella, by putting his contract on hold does raise the question, particularly as we traded our first pick next year. What's your thoughts on developing Rotham as that tall winger ?

Petra??? may be a find - he would have been a standout if he didn't try to bounce the toy plastic silver AFLX ball. Great run off the Wing or HBF. What Jetta can not supply.

Didn’t think he put talks on hold, just doesn’t expect a deal to be done in any rush ie mid year deal like every other contract he has signed.

His non handball really spun me out to be honest. He has some definite tools, glad we took the chance with him, but don't confuse the uncontested nature of AFLX to real football. He is at least a year or 2 away.

Rotham is an option I would definately pursue, simple question of can he develop the endurance required and read the play well. Fall back or rotation for Rotham should be the back flank or pocket.

Westoff plays wing to reasonable effect. Its just a position we really havent nailed for quite some time, same as a true crumbing small forward. Rioli covers that in spades just needs to keep up his good work on his fitness levels. Hoping Ryan is another.

IMO he could come in this year and adequately play a defensive forward role and do that job quite well. If two of Rioli, Cripps or Ryan are out injured I coukd see him getting a shot.

In a couple of years he could move down field and play wing, half back or posssibly midfield.

I guess my point was that gaff is in for this season - if he was to move, and that is hihly speculative, we have a possible replacement that could add value

Highly speculative?

He's a free agent, put off contract talks and hasnt come out and stated he's staying.

Some of that is just his manager doing his job but Id say its almost a 50 / 50 call.

If Saint Kilda dont make finals this year they will throw buckets of cash at decent free agents. As will Collingwood.

Woosha will be keen as would Norths, Hawks and Carlton.

So Gaff can earn more elsewhere, that is a given IMO. What we can get back is what is interesting.

quite frankly, we lack pace big time and he is a big part of the problem. It is highly speculative - i.e. guess work on BF but no loss if he goes (seperate issue completely and i was discussing petra but this is BF

Just being realistic. I think we could easily make the 8 , but the closeness of the competition in the past couple of years, I don't think there is a lot of difference between 8 and 18.
I think there's a huge difference between teams like GC, North, Brisbane and Carlton (who I think will finish bottom 4) and us. Unless half the team goes down for the season there's no chance we're finishing bottom 4.

Ainsworth instead of Petruccelle I think ? I liked the deal at the time, still do, but giving away your #1 pick which is quite possibly a top 4 pick ? I can feel the melts already.

Anus was taken with our standard 2nd rounder. We received 21,26,37 and GC second rounder this year for pick 50 and our first rounder for this years first.

I don't see how we finish bottom 4. Our absolute worst possible finishing position to me is 13th. Everything goes right and i mean everything and we could well win the premiership. Most likely our top finishing position is 5th.

So lets look at the most likely events. Gold coast at this stage look horrendous, almost a guarantee for bottom four and most likely bottom 2. Who could realistically finish below them? Carlton, North ???? So lets say they finish 16th with 6 wins (overall i think they'd be happy with that). That leaves the pick we receive this year as roughly pick 21.

Lets look at our season on the poor side of things without being catastrophic. I see 8 wins and 6 50/50's as us being on the very poor side of the ledger. Lets say that gets us 10 wins. With our potent forward line its also likely that we will have a decent margin even losing more games than we win. This would highly likely lead us (based on last 3 years afl ladders) finishing 10-12th. So pick 7-9.

So in essense looking at a reasonable worst case scenario we've given up pick 7 + pick 50
For Oscar Allen, Liam Ryan, Jack Petrucelle and pick 21 this year.

With our normal first round pick we drafted the top ranked Key Forward of the draft.
With our standard second rounder we drafted the top ranked Clearance mid of the draft.
With our standard 4th rounder we drafted a ball magnet inside mid who whilst recovering from major injury was in the best players of his team in 7 of 11 games. Not to mention his non injured brothers in their respective draft years were drafted at pick 3 in 2015 and at pick 2 in 2017. At tac level he was dead average in his first 2 games back in 2017. From that point onwards he was listed in the best in 7 of 9 games including 3 BOG performances. In his two games from that point where he wasn't listed as one of the best on ground he kicked 4 goals, 3 behinds, 42 disposals, 10 marks and 13 tackles.

Anyone even remotely questioning this trade has their head screwed on wrong imo. Without someone coming out post 2018 draft with the player available at our relative first round pick with us saying we would have taken the same player and then said player turning into Chris Judd there is no way we have lost this trade on any level.
