In the lead up to round 1, it’s again that time of year for your predictions!

The 2016 Thread is HERE

As a collective group last year we voted for a top 8 of:
GWS, Syd, WB, WCE, Geel, Adel, Port, StK.

So we got 6/8. With the Dogs replaced by Richmond and the Saints by Essendon.
In 2016 we got 5/8.

Interestingly a whole host of us nailed the Brownlow/Coleman combo in 2016’s predictions, but this year we weren’t so good. No one guessed Dustin Martin as the brownlow medallist but a few did guess the Coleman medallist Lance Franklin: tribey , CharlieKelly , HombschyPAFCgun , Enviable Tradition and MrChow

The only people that guessed Ryder would make AA were TheBeardAmigos and Waspy79, Waspy79 even went one better, being the only one to pick Ryder for our B&F.

Tribey was the only bloke to pick Sam Gray as our most improved, a lot picked Clurey and to be honest we couldn’t have been far off with that prediction. Interestingly a lot of us had Hombsch pegged for a big year, unfortunately that didn't pan out.

Showing our anti-Crows bias, only one person picked the Crows to make the GF, and no one picked Richmond. That guess came from AusHorrorStory.

Everyone always predicts Geelong to slide but forget that they have 9 home games at Kardinia Park where they're near on unbeatable.

They'll finish top 4.
I can't see how any team that has 3 of the entire competitions top 10 to 20 mids, wouldnt be a top 8 finisher minimum. Their home ground advantage will help, but their elite talent will win games on their own.

Ports wins the flag.

Geelong makes Top 4 but gets bundled out in straight sets.

Brisbane scrape into the Top 8.

Richmond finishes 9th.

Adelaide misses the finals too.

Carlton rises like a phoenix to the lofty heights of 12th (for the first time in their history).

Collingwood end up in the Bottom 4.

I just realised Robbie would be ineligible for the Brownlow. Is this the case? I mean technically he didn't commit the offence during the premiership season so maybe he still would be eligible???

I'm hoping for one last big season!

Hang on, I’m a bit slow on the uptake here, but how is Robbie still eligible given his suspension for round 1? Is this the AFL saying something like “The JLT games are important enough to have any suspension carry into the season proper rather than the next JLT game, but not important enough to rule someone out of the Brownlow”? The governing of this game is all over the shop.

Yeah as per my post just above this one. He probably isn't eligible, I have likely made a mistake. However technically he could still be eligible.

Robbie is still eligible as the suspension is the (unfair) punishment for action prior to the AFL H&A season. The Brownlow Medal is for performance during the H&A season, not for events preceding it.

No different to any carryover suspension from the previous year if it were to eventuate.

So you’re backing up my point.

If the action didn’t warrant the punishment of Brownlow ineligibility due to it occurring in the pre season competition then it should follow that his one game suspension be served in the next JLT game, not the premiership season. The running of this game is comical.
