Thread needs more Harris Andrews. Probably helps that we suck and he gets more opurtunities to show his wares but regardless he must be starting to get close.

Actually, that would be 2015 when Naitanui was awesome but only Goldstein was picked.

Why should there be two ruckmen picked in the AA side when so few sides line up like that?
In the fantasy world that the AA team plays in, the make believe football department have opted to include two ruckman due to the fantasy scheduling being against other make believe teams with two ruckman.

I don’t think it’s that hard to justify a hypothetical two ruck team in a hypothetical world with so many hypotheticals.

If West Coast win the flag with two ruckman I’m sure it would be more than justifiable to opt for two ruckman in the AA team.

So yes, “I’m sure you could make a case” for having two ruckman in your hypothetical mid season hypothetical team.

Hypothetically speaking of course.

Our defence has been dominant for 5 weeks. There's now way they're not getting a look in.
I want no part of melbourne at the moment as they look great, but they've had a dream run of crap teams and an injury ravaged crows. Doesn't get tough for them to round 18 either.

Because if you have to awesome rucks it gives you a massive advantage against a team running out one ruck and a part timer. Your two rucks have to give something around the ground though.

If any team ran out grundy and Gawn for example the opposition would pick two ruckman every time (unless they didn't have two that could run without falling over)

I remember there being discussion about hit outs to advantage and difficulty tracking the stats. Just found tracking here https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/st...ategory=possessions&sortBy=hitoutsToAdvantage

Averages of relevant players:
Gawn 17.5
Sandi 13.9
Grundy 11.7
Martin 10.2
Natanui 9.4

Out of interest, the above ruckmen's teams average clearance differential:
MELB (+3.3) 2nd 1st in centre clearances
FREO (+4.7) 1st 5th in centre clearances
PIES (+2.0) 4th 16th in centre clearances
BRIS (+1.1) 6th 9th in centre clearances
WCE (+1.9) 5th 7th in centre clearances

It certainly is a more apt stat.

But IMO % and differentials play a critical role.

Hit out and Hit outs to advantage are like wicket keeping. They are all a function of opportunity.

So sometimes it isn't the catches you take, rather the ones you miss.

I'll just pick on Gawn because he's leading

Let's say he gets 17.5 HOtoAdv but concedes 17.5 HOtoAdv - then he isn't really rucking all that well.

Let's say compared to Sandi - who only concedes 2 HOtoADV (Hypothetical stats btw in case that wasn't obvious)

The issue we face is that detailed stats are withheld to the public and we only get snippets from time to time.

How do we block the autistic dude that keeps clogging up the thread?

Coaches votes giving a good indication of the starting onball brigade

Gawn in ruck with Cripps, Cotch and Fyfe in the middle, Gaff and Mcrae on the wings with Mitchell breathing right down their necks.

Round Ten Leaderboard
51 Nat Fyfe (Frem)
46 Patrick Cripps (Carl)
45 Trent Cotchin (Rich)
45 Max Gawn (Melb)
42 Jack Darling (WC)
40 Jack Macrae (WB)
40 Tom Mitchell (Haw)
36 Andrew Gaff (WC)
34 Rory Laird (Adel)
33 Dustin Martin (Rich)
Uncalled for dude.

Yeah but.. but..

if you normalise it for their ability. Nankervis did ok.

A bit like a tagger getting 5 possessions but keeping a star to 18 possessions.

Nankervis over Gawn for the "tried the hardest" all australian team for mine.

Will stick with the Gawn/Grundy combo for the real AA
Read my original post again before you get all uppity. 'Not saying he is all AA but flies well under the radar.'
At least I acknowledged it when I went of half cocked....

Has looked like a gun from day one. :thumbsu:

Plus he's going through the Melbourne school of getting pummeled each week. Demons developed a bunch of good backs through that kind of repetition. :D

Tested this out on the foxsports link provided.
Melbourne 185 hitouts to advantage (175 Gawn, Weid 3, Pedo 3, Smith 3, Harmes 1) Opponents 82 hitouts to advantage
Collingwood 131 hitouts to advantage (117 Grundy, 14 Cox) Opponents 71 hitouts to advantage

Chose those two because they seem to be the near consensus rivals here.
