They usually only select 1 ruckman, because the comp rarely has 2 that are best 22 players in the comp, and they are not going to force out 2 players just to name 2 rucks.
a) Gawn and Grundy are easily in the best 22 players this year,
b) You're not leaving out 2 players to name 2 rucks. This implies a normal team has no rucks to start with.

This is tough. Way too many midfielders probably.

The ideal All Australian team would have the countries best 22 players in it, and those 22 players would fit nicely into a team, eg You would have a ruck, a backup ruck, a couple of KPFs, a couple of KPD, a third tall, a couple of outside mids, a couple of inside, etc, etc, but fate is not usually so neat.

A squad of the leagues best players will not equally represent all positions, so how far do you go to ensure your picking players for the position, rather than recognising best players.

What if at years end, they decide Gawn and Grundy are the 23rd and 24th best players. Team needs a ruck, so 1 goes in, someone therefore has to come out, but do you include both, and push out 2 others?

If they're that lowly rankee then only one needs to be in there. But both are arguably in the top ten players in the league at the moment.

Cripps starts over oliver. He’s ranked number two in the Brownlow prediction right now.

Being a bit generous with Gibbs

I’d have Seedsman ahead of him personally

Gibbs has been very good, but had a few quiet games, whereas Seed has been quite consistent and his impact has been huge.
Gibbs has dropped off a lot last few weeks. Started on fire but his form has sort of matched Adelaide's in a way, probably highlighting his importance to them with a number of key players out.

Edit: Definitely not in the 22 at this stage

I think Caddy, Cotchin, Rance and Martin are in the 40 man squad, in order from most likely to least likely at the moment.

Astbury, Riewoldt can still get there depending on the rest of the year.
If Cotchin is as prominent as you and others are suggesting I wonder why Nathan Jones is yet again slipping under the radar. Very comparable stats. In fact he’s exceeding Cotchin in disposals, goals, inside 50s, score involvements and metres gained.

Cotchin is having a better season than all those Richmond players mentioned. Jones goes under the radar always. Now that he has some talent around him he is more creative, which was the knock on him. In that way both he and Cotchin are having similar seasons, they don't have to do all the dirty work any more.

Side looks pretty good.
Jimmy Webster would be close I’d have him instead of Stewart.
Gibbs has fallen off quite a lot and wouldn’t be in the side currently.
Tarrent has been ok but a long way from AA, not sure who’d I put in as CHB though.
Definitely 2 ruckman in as both would be too 5 players in the Como currently.

I probably need to watch more Adelaide, every time I see them Gibbs has been great.

Though Crows fands would know better, as they’ve seen more
typical Gibbs last Sunday v Melbourne. Piss weak

Webster has been fine, but he's a bit of an empty stats player. Has polled 4 votes in one game from the coaches, while Stewart has polled 28 across 5 games.
Stewart has him covered for impact.

There's a collection of posters mentioning Gibbs, he's barely holding on. The argument to drop him is getting stronger.

There are some solid candidates for CHB, Rance and Andrews would be my next closest key defenders. Neither Talia or Tarrant are really locked in.
