Saw retirees Lonergan and Mackie being interviewed on TV last night and it got me wondering who their likely replacements are in the Geelong defence this season. Do Geelong supporters feel they're departure will create a chance for any specific fringe player to become decent SC scorers? Are there particular rookies who might get regular games in their spots?

The Geelong midfield and forward rookies really worry me this season. They could be a trap. About 5 of them performed well enough in the JLT to be considered for a round 1 spot in the likely absence of Danger and Menegola, but which if any of the ones named for round 1 will still be there when those players return and last to even play 3 games?
Thurlow had a good year 2015 or 16 but then had a knee injury. His 2017 was poor but understandable off a fair layoff.

May step up for that half back spot as he is a good kick. Just doesn't get it enough to be a SC option

Whatever happened to Worpel, Hawks were all over him a while back

Don't think he had a run in JLT
Impressed in AFLX , and played ok for Box Hill last week. Selection would be a surprise, but not a complete shock.

I’m sure Clarko will get games into him throughout the year, but maybe not early.

I'm swinging towards going premo rookies to start.

I don't mind my team overall, and although their $$$ generation is hampered by starting at $170+, you kind of make that up when you downgrade them (sort of).

Right now I have Noughton, Coffield, Brayshaw, Dow and Rayner as expensive rookies, all starting on the field (with Murray and Fritzl other starters).

that is probably the way to go

Naughton, Coffield, Brayshaw, Zuthrie are my 4 expensive rookies

Murray, Ryan and Fritsch the other 3 starters

Have a feel for what McDonald may score ?
He doesn't have much exposed form in the mids. 85 min 105 absolute max IMO.
Bit of a guess though.
3xjlt games would have been helpful for these types of players. I feel I'm taking less of these risks this year as 1 or 2 preseason games tells us **** all.

I agree, too much of an unknown ...too many more solid options
