Re: the David King Billings suggested trade, both Terry Wallace and Gerard Whateley agreed with the idea. As much as I am a fan of Whateley, he's been pretty much barracking for us to go into full rebuild mode all year.

Expected Terry to agree, he tends to overprice draft picks over current players. Wheatley has clearly spent to long with King already.

What's funny is these same commentators will bag us for letting go of McEvoy, Dal Santo and Goddard (even though we had no choice with that one)one day, and then suggest this we do the same thing with an even younger player the next.

Which is pretty much what we need to do our list is rubbish

In borderbarry 's defence Lewey arguably beat Tim English and Braydon Preuss in the VFL before coming in and beating Belchambers. Not bad at all for a developing ruckman

(hitouts, touches, marks, goals)

Pierce (54, 14, 3, 0) V english (33, 9, 6, 2)
Pierce (39, 14, 4, 1) V Preuss (32, 17, 5, 1)
Pierce (27, 18, 5, 0) V Belly (25, 13, 3, 0)
In Richos defence - its hardly the senior coach's role to be watching the "progress" of a 4th choice ruckman who has cracked it for one game in 4 years.

That said Pierce by virtue of a bit of luck has 2 games to get a new contract - the coach will be watching, the list and recruiting managers will be watching - so the balls firmly in his court.

Exactly. I listened to that live. It was Whateley that suggested it. King said North would gladly give #10 because he could be the next Shaun Higgins, which was another way of saying Saints should not trade him. Wallace said he would consider it, but really it was Whatley saying we should trade him as he will never be A grade and pick #10 could be A grade

It might depend on what happens with Sydney over the next two weeks. They could easily end up anyway between 10 and 6th. So Pick 9 to 13 territory.

So Pick 4 for Pick 9 and Hannerbery. Values Hannebery @ 33 - late second round = OK?

Pick 4 for Pick 13 and Hannebery - values Hannebery at 23 = too high!!!

You can value him at anything you like but losing out on the top end of this draft is like swapping access to the Dusty and Buddy range for someone in the Jordan Russell /Jordan Gysberts range.

Agree. We are desperate for top end talent not foot soldiers.

Haha it is 100% the senior coaches job to understand the progress of a young player on his list.

If Richo was unaware that Pierce matched it with two of the most highly regarded young ruckmen in the league then he should be fired and everyone reporting to him should be fired. Maybe that is exactly why Mav etc get a million games in a row while others could be played, no one is watching who is ready for a shot

Lets say it is

Pick 4 Out

Hanners and Pick 13 in.

If we pick up the slack of the Sydney deal then a swap of later picks may be needed.

Wouldnt be surprised to see other potential deals to be spoken off before this goes down. I wonder what Adelaide would give for a chance at say Pick 4?

Lethlean could become the worst addition we have ever had very quickly if he gets this trade period wrong. It might be the start of a prolonged down period if we ruin this one.

We can't be serious even contemplating Hannarbry. Alarm bells must be ringing in our ears - he is slow and past his best. Why do u think Swans r interested in trading him? Maybe they know he is past it and see Stkilda r dumb and desperate enough to do a deal no way - chase elite talent like Gaff and Shiel and if we miss out on them go for free agents who won't cost us anything but money and improve our very poor list who we all overrate. Outside speed and skill a priority and with pick four we should fill that void not picking up Hanners Let's get serious Saints we have waited this long don't waste this pick Go Saints

Swans have Hanners contracted for another 3 years, we're not interested in trading him...unless he wants to go home.
3rd in the Brownlow 2 years ago and won the coaches MVP the year before that.

Had his knee busted by Wood in the 16 GF and has battled injury ever since.

On his last 12 months it might be a dodgy trade for a high draft pick, but it would be even more foolish to right off a player of Hannebery's calibre.

Someone else mentioned it as well, but the Menzel one is interesting given our propensity for bombing long inside 50. Surely his acquisition would necessitate a shift in our gameplan to maximise his output? Better footskills would be a start in this regard anyway of course

OK keep him then...

Stuff them. If we walk away they can deal with the salary cap ramifications.

I read somewhere (can’t remember where) that Saints have offered to absorb all of Hannebery’s salary within our salary cap. They won’t get that deal elsewhere. They take what we can afford and that is not a 1st RDP downgrade either this year or next year.

Surely we play hard ball on this.

On the Hanners topic, does anyone know whether clubs provide other clubs with access to GPS data. I imagine Saints want to know what k's Hanners is covering and at what pace. This is the crux of the matter to me. A medical will only tell us so much.

The discussion was that Richo was supposedly not interested enough to find the time to go down to Frankston to WATCH the 4th best ruckman on our list play.

He's the senior coach and I'd be absolutely disgusted if that's how he spent his weekends - that's why you assistant coaches and 100 other staff at a football club.

Here's a weird idea - perhaps he just asked Adam Skrobalak to keep him updated - Skrobalak's only our ruck coach and Frankstons Senior coach - what would he know about Pierces progress!!

Lethlean isnt trading for anybody. He isn't the list manager.

We know he is quality mate

What you are hearing is people trying to either talk up his injuries to talk down his value, or supporters who are convinced that we are a rabble and no one would want to come to us (and when someone says that Hanners might, then they are automatically convinced he is cooked).

With this potential trade, for us there is still an element of injury risk, and we would no doubt be agreeing to eat his huge salary. Honestly that means there is no way you get pick 4 straight up. Not trying to be difficult, but given our current list situation that is unrealistic (no matter how good he has been). As I see it there are about 4 realistic options.

Option A) 4 for Hanners and your first this year (something around 13). We can throw you some junk picks too to help cover Blakey
Option B) We get an end of first round PP and flick that to you for Hanners (around 21 or so)
Option C) Future second. Heavily weighted in our favour, but possible if your salary cap is as rooted as is reported & you want Moore as well
Option D) A young high draft pick who hasn't come on as expected or a solid player. Something like Dunstan, McKenzie, Savage, Longer

You don't have to like any of those options. He is contracted so we have no leverage. But the lack of outrage at our approach to a contracted player about to undertake a finals campaign tells me your club is actually listening very closely and not fighting too hard.

Overall I cant see us giving up anything more than one of the above 4 options. Really up to you which one you prefer. And if you like none, then he stays a Swan. Simples

Lets just hope it turns out as good for both parties as when we gave you Barry Hall for the Nick Dal Santo pick

Ok. Hows about:

We give sydney our 1st next year for hanna and their 1st this year (13ish)

We get hanners, rankine/smith and rozee/collier-dawkykid

Syd get rid of their 1st so they can use a 2nd rounder and junk points for blakey

We back ourselves in that with an easier 2019 draw we can have a blinder and fly up the ladder to 5th or 6th bottom :moustache:

Of course the negative is that we have no presence in the 1st round next year which i hear is a super draft

We could easily finish last next year.

Billings to Ess. Ross to PA. Membrey to Syd for Hanners. Paddy for Menzel

Dear God. Did those geniuses in the media really propose all of that?

They’re idiots. Jesus. Whatley is drinking his own dishwater. Pumped up poncing primadonna. No wonder his radio ratings are falling off a cliff.
