The reason he plays so well is because the opposition focus more in those stars you just mention. For all the disposals they get, that midfield of Dangerfield, Ablett, Selwood, Kelly, Duncan & Guthrie are looking down the barrel of missing the finals

Put Kelly in a mediocre midfield & he’d be another deadset GOP
Maybe or he goes even better. He's got to share it with those guys. He is playing off the wing a bit and isn't getting to win his own ball as much which he seems good at. I love his game, he will be a gun where ever he goes IMO. He was the steal of the draft.

Yes and would drive him there myself. I don't know how much of Geelong you have watched this year but he's been unbelievable. He had 36 possessions against Richmond a couple of weeks ago and he's playing mid and resting up front to allow Ablett, Danger and Selwood midfield time. I literally would swap what ever player that asked for for him....maybe even Gresham if he was keen to stay in Vic.
This is a fair overreaction. Kelly has had a great year but he is an awful kick, genuinely awful. He also has not proven anything for longer than one season as a fifth mid. I think he will prove himself over the next few years but he is worth about 15 at the moment probably.

Also on a bit of a side note.

Jack Steele has climbed up to 73 on the AFL ratings list with Jack Sinclair at 74. Gresham has also cracked the top 100 the past few weeks.

We need these blokes to become at least top 50 players next year. I would think Steele is pretty much a lock at this stage given his trajectory.

Also those thinking Carlton have a better list need a bit of a reality check. They only have 2 players inside the top 100 (Kreuzer and Cripps) and Murphy, Ed Curnow, Kade Simpson and Matthew Wright all rank in the top 7 from Carlton on there. Whereas for us our oldest player in our club top 10 is Steven (who is only 28) otherwise everyone is under 26 (Ross, Steele, Sinclair, Gresham, Billings, Dunstan, Carlisle, Membrey, Webster). They might have Cripps but they don't have much else and most of their current better players won't be there for their next finals push.

I reckon he's worth WCE first pick or if Freo got Cerra for him they would be driving Cerra to the airport before they changed their minds. He looks a top line AFL mid. His kicking isn't that bad.

I like Hickey, he's a good bloke but I'm not crying if he goes.

Billings, Steele, Ross, Membrey, Webster, Carlisle, Gresham, Acres, Robbo, Stuv are in my cry list.

Well-up but not remember 3 weeks after they were gone would be Dunny, Savage, Bruce, Armo, Clarke, Coffield, Long, Battle, lonie, Rice, White.

Shocked but not devastated would be Hickey, Goddard, Mc cartin, Phillips, Mc Kenzie, Clavarino, Austin, Paton.

All ready processed and moved on are Mav, Minch, Wright, Longer.
Gringo , i think you need to be added to the seven that need testing on here ;) How could you not have long in the cry list , he is ballistic and poor Oscar , what did he ever do to you , your just mean

At the same stage of their careers id think Cerra would be miles in front , i really like Blake but just wonder if he is going to be a tease and never really get the best out of himself

What do you base that on? He looks alright to me but he's not amazing. He looks like a promising kid rather than a definite star.

Long is promising at the moment, I'm pretty brutal but just haven't got enough runs on the board to have a cry over him. Haven't seen anything of Clav except playing ordinary footy at Sandy. He's apparently going okay now but we haven't bonded yet.

Agree that West Coast first pick is on the mark.

His kicking is that bad. Around 24% of his disposals are direct turnovers. That is incredibly high.

I haven't looked at the stats but watching him play he is a very good player. I would love him, he's exciting, fast, elusive and kicks goals and can play inside mid or outside/ wing. He's the one player I wish we'd got last year. So jealous of Geelong and their ability to find players outside of the normal paths.

Jeepers the love affair with Cerra is OTT, yes he's talented but FMD he's legitmately played one good game

Compared to our boys
Generally recruiters look at what a player can become when looking at someone at his age, not necessarily what they have done.

But it is a good question as to whether you would prefer Clark or Cerra. I think i would go with Cerra but certainly not unhappy with Clark. Clark has lot more physically to develop into whereas Cerra's body looks a bit more ready made for AFL so that may mean that Clark has more upside. My only concern is whether his first step is quick enough. He looks like he can run with long strides but doesn't look all that explosive. Although his hands are very clean and he looks good in tight.

People keep saying this like it's fact…

In which areas do we immediately improve in?

Hickey has Lycett comfortably covered in hitouts to advantage for instance.

I don't think Lycett is anywhere near proven as a #1 ruckmen.
I don't reckon he would be our ruckman.
Why dont we play both longer and hickey in the same side?
Because they are both useless when starting forward.
Reckon lycett would take over from bruce as fwd/2nd ruck.
Play in tandem with one of hickey or longer.
Bruce stays forward.

The bloke makes Giblet look like Darren Jarman.

I think Cerra had one really good game where he got like 30 possession or something crazy and it opened a few eyes but he looks a bit like any other kid to me since. Could be a champion or could be a Luke Dunstan. He looked promising last year too though.

I like Hunter, I think he's got something a bit out of the ordinary so I'll stick with our home boy. Seriously if Cerra becomes as good as Kelly is in his first year Freo would be pretty happy, surely anyone would take the definite gun player over a maybe every time. Kelly will improve you imagine once he gets experience.

Absolutely I completely understand that. What I’m saying is that the love shown and what we’re willing as biggooty posters to give up is so rediculously high. Now I also think that due to the media and us being saints supporters that we also don’t hype our own young players as much specifically Clark and coff. If Clark has a slow first step so does Cerra. Bear in mind especially more midway through the year Cerra was playing a lot more midfield time then Clarke and Coff has had next to no midfield time at AFL level I’m telling u I’ve seen it at tac and at vfl he has all the tools to be a mid. The issue is the development.

Specifically Cerra vs Clarke

Kicking Cerra 9 Clarke 7.5

Hands Cerra 8.5 Clarke 9

Running Cerra 7 Clarke 8

Defensive work Cerra 7.5 Clarke 8

Decision making (at this stage ) Cerra 8.5 Clark 8

Nope , you need some happy pills , Oscar has been pretty good the last few weeks , dont worry about him , he will be a ripper and the bonding offer wont last for ever

I base it on pure facts , go check the stats , Blake is 4 years older than him too ,

Sorry I didn't read properly, I thought we were talking about Kelly v Cerra. Blake was never really given any midfield time until recently and has been a bit part player. Also injured when he arrived. Pretty hard to stack them against each other. Blake was playing fantastic footy before he went down this year. I would keep Blake still if I was given the choice. Cerra is still just a promising kid where we have a bit more of a form line for Blake.

I hope you are right. I'm not any more negative than anyone else on here, people just don't like my message. You are just a bandwagon hero who takes swipes after everyone else has had a go softening me up.

Oscar might be a gun but I won't cry if he leaves this year because I know nothing of him other than 2 Sandy games where he was invisible. It's not a slight on him, I just have nothing to base it on.
