I don't reckon he would be our ruckman.
Why dont we play both longer and hickey in the same side?
Because they are both useless when starting forward.
Reckon lycett would take over from bruce as fwd/2nd ruck.
Play in tandem with one of hickey or longer.
Bruce stays forward.
700K X 5 seems a little steep for a forward/ruck who has kicked 10 goals in 20 matches this year.

Marshall is going at the same goal average, takes more marks, gets the same amount of the ball and has only played 11 games.

He's more guaranteed to be able to handle being the sole ruck duties though to be fair. Marshall and Hickey would do me next year. I'm not a huge ruck fan unless they are absolute beasts like Grundy or Max.

The reason he plays so well is because the opposition focus more in those stars you just mention. For all the disposals they get, that midfield of Dangerfield, Ablett, Selwood, Kelly, Duncan & Guthrie are looking down the barrel of missing the finals

Put Kelly in a mediocre midfield & he’d be another deadset GOP
Des Headland MK2

Send Tim to Freo and will get the same long-term result as the Headland trade!

I hope you are right. I'm not any more negative than anyone else on here, people just don't like my message. You are just a bandwagon hero who takes swipes after everyone else has had a go softening me up.

Oscar might be a gun but I won't cry if he leaves this year because I know nothing of him other than 2 Sandy games where he was invisible. It's not a slight on him, I just have nothing to base it on.
Chill Bro , i was just messing with you ,

I think Cerra had one really good game where he got like 30 possession or something crazy and it opened a few eyes but he looks a bit like any other kid to me since. Could be a champion or could be a Luke Dunstan. He looked promising last year too though.

I like Hunter, I think he's got something a bit out of the ordinary so I'll stick with our home boy. Seriously if Cerra becomes as good as Kelly is in his first year Freo would be pretty happy, surely anyone would take the definite gun player over a maybe every time. Kelly will improve you imagine once he gets experience.
I guess it depends on your definition of gun player. Personally i don't rate Kelly that high so would prefer the younger/higher upside guy (even if that is the more risky move). I guess we can agree to disagree.

Another thought experiment. Would you trade our top 5 pick for Kelly?

Sorry I didn't read properly, I thought we were talking about Kelly v Cerra. Blake was never really given any midfield time until recently and has been a bit part player. Also injured when he arrived. Pretty hard to stack them against each other. Blake was playing fantastic footy before he went down this year. I would keep Blake still if I was given the choice. Cerra is still just a promising kid where we have a bit more of a form line for Blake.
Im not unhappy with blake it was more about what we could get if he wanted to go home , but yeah , both promising players , who stands up we will see in time

On a side issue - whilst it is not exactly headline news to St Kilda fans, i am well informed that Longer has already been advised his contract is not to be renewed and he will be up for trade at season's end. Again, not earth shattering stuff, but takes away any of the conjecture on here.
Cant believe they have announced it so soon.
We probably only get a Round6 Draft pick instead of a 5th Round pick now in Trade period

Perfect three way trade that keeps all clubs happy without the need for 2018 draft selections to be hindered.

Geelong are ultra keen to find a long term replacement and/or foil for Hawkins.

Fremantle are ultra keen to lure Tim Kelly back to WA.

St Kilda are ultra keen to bolster their midfield stocks.

McCartin (and change) to Geelong/ Tim Kelly to Fremantle/ Cerra to St Kilda.

Nobody really loses as Kelly and Cerra will eventually head home (be it now or next contract) and McCartin gets a fresh start back home. Geelong may want something more added to the deal but i think that could be arranged in some fashion without touching our picks.

Thoughts?
Haha hahahahaha haha. We loose Paddy and get Cerra. Gold. Nobody looses.

That pick 5 in this draft would probably get me Rankine so probably not. If it was another draft yes. If it was a pick between 7 and 10 yes.

You would have to think that one of:
Hickey/Longer are gone for a second
and
Paddy/Bruce are gone for a first
and
Billings is gone for a first
and maybe
Dunstan/Ross could be gone for first/second

We won't know next years side.
Giving away Ross and/or Billings would be stupid. And I can't see us trading more than 2 players tbh. One of the ruckman and one of Dunston, Paddy or Bruce I'd think.

Remember Stevens is gone, likely so are Gilbert, Weller, Wright, Minchington. Pierce, Lonie and the two Irish boys are on thin ice. (I would keep them tbh) And were still not sure on Roberton. That's a lot of list spots to fill.

gringo2011 in response to you, this was pretty much my reasoning.

I'm Blakes biggest fan, have been since a long way before we recruited him.

But I'm getting sick of seeing him being played out of position, for whatever reason, the coach can't get the best out of him. I want to see him succeed in a Saints jumper but I honestly am not sure it will happen whilst Richo is around.

If I'm getting frustrated and looking for better opportunities for him as a supporter, no doubt he would be too.

So if he did mention that he wanted out, then a deal involving Cerra is the best outcome for us.

He's still young for a ruckman so he's got time on his side. Plenty came good around 28 yo.
Isee in the paper the Eagles are trying to entice Tim English from the Dogs - this kid is 21 and will be the best ruck in the AFL in a couple years.

He notched 51 hit outs among 21 disposals and 128 ranking points against Williamstown before collecting a further 49 hit outs and 15 touches against North Melbourne on the weekend.

English has played nine career games but is seen as a long-term prospect, hence why the Dogs extended his contract until the end of 2020 last April.

Wouldn't he be good at the Saints - but he is a Perth boy and most probably end up in the west.

Absolutely, if he decided he wanted out I think that would be a pretty fair swap though, don't think we need to offer up anything extra on top. That would be only if both players wanted home though obviously.
