Wouldn't worry too much about Geary's comments re: priority pick. Why would he want or need a player who might one day take his job? Bottom line is there are people far more important in football that want to see us get a PP and who think we definitely need one.
why not get something for nothing - would be stupid not to want to get one - and hate to say it but Geary is a spud and he is the captain

Yeah, I agree, I’m not potting Pierce, I want every one of our players to be stars. But having only played 2 games ( one of them two years ago) I don’t think we can say at this stage that Lycett ( if we got him) would be behind Pierce. Still lots to play out. Pierce was very good last week but let’s see how he goes from here.
Lycett has more exposed form at the moment and my point earlier was that there is more chance he’ll be number 1 ruck with us than at the Eagles once Nic Nat is back.

Really hoping Pierce can have two more good ones this season.

It does pose the question though. Lycett vs Pierce ? Particularly if the rest of the year goes well for Lewy.
Unfortunately the rest of the year is only two games. Based on his past few games he should have been playing seniors a few weeks ago already...another indictment on our coaching panel, because three weeks is hardly showing a decent body of work on which to make a decision.

My mail is that Dunstan won’t be at St Kilda next year if Cho is.
Seems odd as Dunstan is one of the few young blokes who has been given every chance to succeed. Has chewed up a fair chunk of our midfield rotations for almost 5 years now and has barely improved.

As others have mentioned if there is a way to get rid of both I would be all for it. Dunstan is slow, cant spread, has ordinary kicking, limited endurance and for an "inside mid" is hardly an animal at the contest. Basically a very good VFL player.

Is kidding himself if he thinks he is being starved of opportunity at the Saints, zero chance of breaking into either SA side.

I think I’d like to see how our players would go under a new coach and coaching group before trading them off. We’ve been abysmal at contested ball and clearances for years now with not even the slightest sign of improvement, surely it has to be coaching/development.

Too early to start a Pierce Vs Lycett thread?
76 pages of complaining about who is the greater spud, but but but someone's not as good as Gawn, someone else beat someone in the under 18's therefor...……...
I'm begging you, please don't.

i still rate Dunstan ... he is still one of the guys you can see puts his everything into the team he actually looks devstated when we lose like its hurt him personally .. i dont reckon we get that kind of buy in from others .. the thing is i think we are not playing dunstan to his best attributes, if you watch him he often tries to do too much , the comparison to Clint Jones is valid .. Clint carved out a fair career at the saints by not trying to do what he couldnt do .. back in the day Ross Lyon gave him a set of guidelines of what his role was and what he was expected to do based on his abilities and he played in a way that for the most part hid his flaws ... i think with a stronger direction from a mor understanding coach Dunstan could become the player he showed he could become in year one ... someone like Lenny guiding him or even Harves would give him the right direction at the moment Mcphee is trying to direct him no disrespect to Mcphee but he wouldnt have a clue what an AFL midfield is like in the heat of battle

Can't agree more.

I keep comparing him to Ollie Wines which maybe is a bit unfair but they are similar in terms of probably being below average aerobically. The thing that allows Wines to succeed is that he has consistently averaged over 12 contested possessions a game and over 6 clearances a game which is elite. Dunstan has never averaged more than 10 cp in a season and never more than 4 clearances. The difference may not sound like much but it is the difference between being a star and a mediocre afl player (especially because Dunstan doesn't make up for it in other areas). If Dunstan showed that he could improve and grow into this sort of player that would be one thing, but his growth has been very slow especially considering he has played over 16 games at afl level each of the past 5 season. If he was better aerobically or had elite foot skills then this might not matter so much but for him it is crucial.

It is telling when the main reason I don't want a player traded is that I know that he is best friends with Acres and I worry that this might cause Acres to look elsewhere.

You expect your captain to put a positive spin on things too. If he was saying our list is ****** we need help, I don't think he'd be too popular.

I didn't think you were capable of being negative Premo. I like it.... feel the disdain for humanity rising in your gut, hate everything, the world is a bad place.....it's all the club's fault. ;)
