Important loss for the Suns yesterday. Win would have moved them from pick 2 to pick 4. Beat Swans in Sydney last week, Carlton lost 100 in a row.

Interesting
It just shows what happens when young sides lose the little experience they have.

Started well looking the better side,3 goals up, swallow gets concussed and they don’t score a goal for over an hour....

Can Austin and Clavarino be that one more defender? I think you persist with Austin as the second defender with Carlisle and Roberton as the spare - Dylan was a huge loss this season

I can't argue with our forwards - no stars - can understand why the Saints like Max King - you can build a forward line around him.

But I think we need 3 more mids - an bull extractor, a pure outside runner and a silky skilled inside/outside mid
Are you sure we don’t have good forwards? Not many AFL team boast 2 50 goal a season forwards. We have Bruce and Membrey. Then there is Battle, Mccartin if we stick with him.

What we need like you said is mids, mids and more mids. As well as a competent/dominant ruckman. This talk about getting King is complete missing the mark. We already have enough forwards we can not hit on the chest, what’s the point of getting more and miss them with long bombs

Obviously you had differing views on the players that Trout drafted? I thought there was a panel to select players - why did Trout go in the opposite directions to the panel?
I didn't work with trout other than for the handover from John Peake. I do know the trout worked closely with the pelican and had more staff added to his team, but I had little direct contact with him. What I did fear at the time Peakey and I had our farewells was that trout didn't seem to have much knowledge or understanding and that the pelican's plan for the rebuild was just bizarre.

I can't say how trout ran his show, but the head recruiter normally had the last call. I still don't know why we didn't take Darling. Now he and Cripps are on the same team and heading for the finals. No wonder we got the DCM. RL was less than impressed with the Tom Lynch drafting. Then came the Lovett fiasco. Overlooking Jack Darling may have pushed him over the edge. The only insight I have is that we needed outside pace and run (even then)rather than another big forward.

I can't disagree with you - we need a decent ruckman and better mids. I'm not sold on our forwards (Membrey who is great is a second or third fwd) but in saying that I think we need to make do with what we have and concentrate on other areas that desperately need better players such as our onball dept

I like short A LOT, and his kicking skills are exactly what we need in our back half, not dud kicks like Geary and Savage
Geary can't kick to save himself.

Savage frustrates the hell out of me with his bomb it long without looking kicks. However, he is capable of beautiful lace out passes from wing to hit fwds on the chest.

Gave me the impression they only look at the AFL side and take no notice of the rest of the list. Anyone who says we need tall defenders really has no idea.
When we become a good side Billings will be close to A grade. He will be a much better player in a good side. It would be a huge mistake if anyone traded him.
Yes pretty lazy 'assessment'.

All agreed Billings would net a first rounder.

No shit but if we traded Billings for anything less than two first rounders I would go crackers.

He is contracted to the end of 2020. If we trade we better get pretty big overs not just one first rounder FFS.

Also wanted to trade Acres. Really you don't trade a 190 cm mid with still huge upside.

Pretty poor IMO

Yeah how easy did it look for Himmelberg with the delivery he gets. Good mids make good forwards.

This.

We have decent, developing forwards. We forget how young Membrey actually is as well.
We have a pretty handy backline with some youngsters developing in the twos

The acquisition of more very good mids must be our prime target!

What do you know about out new recruiting head? Will he be an upgrade ?

This is what drives me nuts about our team. Paul Ahern just had 22 contested possessions in his 8th game of football. Even Jed Anderson has come from nowhere to average over 10. Our supposed inside mids struggle to get that!! Simply not hard enough.

Yes I do. He did or he was hidden by the Bombers. Wingard tanked. Darling tanked. Cyril didn’t interview clubs apart from Hawthorn and wouldn’t release medical records.

If interviews were not important, surely those players would have gone higher?
Cyril was expected to go to Essendon, but Sheedy was sacked & Knights took a different approach to get away from the Sheedy legacy at the draft by taking Myers.

This is such a load of rubbish. For us to become a better side, blokes like Billings should be making us better.

He’s their ‘Freeman’. Spent years in the rehab room & given a go in the seniors & repaying the faith...

Jed Anderson is 24 in his 5 th season and Ahern was a No 7 Pick but has had two knee reconstructions.

More interesting was to hear Brad Scott say that playing Zeibell and others forward more often has resulted in allowing players like Anderson, Ahern and Simpkin to improve.

Good win by North BTW.

Scott is a very astute coach. He realised playing Cunnington & Ziebel at the same centre bounce was too dour & lacked leg speed. It’s a bit like us playing a combination of Ross/Armo/Steele/Stevens/Dunstan.

Anderson, Ahern & Simpkin all have a bit of toe & playing them midfield not only develops them as midfielders but also improves the teams midfield...

Meanwhile, Richo’s moves incl Carlisle forward, Ross half back & Geary loose defender. FMD.

To be fair he's a high pick at his second club and has had done nearly as many knees as he's played games.

It helps that both of their are top contested ball winners.

It does but rarely are they played together at centre bounces this year. Ahern cut his teeth as an outside mid in junior footy & after back to back ACL’s has reinvented himself as a contested mid racking up 22 contested possessions today. I’m not sure who on our list has ever achieved that?

Yeah, Ziebell is handy though because he's like De Goey where he's a campaigner that goes forward and hurts you on the scoreboard. If we drop Jack Steven forward our midfield disappears but no one else can reliably do that role. Armo used to but he's limited in his mobility now.

Went to the North WC game here in Hobart today.

Yes I wore my saints jumper. Yes I called out to Gaff to come to the saints every time he came close.

Gaff looked like he is playing injured. Really liked his delivery skills and choices. Would be a good get

McGovern was great, so was Daw. Burn and Higgins both a class above most. The one young kid I liked the look of was Ahern.
