Draft 4 mids with our picks in the top25

Starting midfield group in 2019

Webster Austin/goddard geary
Dmac carsile coff
Sincs acres Clark
Insert shit ruck, steven, steele

Membrey, McCartin, Lonie
Insert bench
The chances of getting a player as good as Billings at 15 in the draft are ridiculously low.

The road to 2025?

Seriously, Billings is 22, Dunstan 23 and Ross is 25. You don't get better by trading out players in this age bracket and bringing in 18 year olds.

Look at Gold Coast, they traded out players and got picks 4, 6, 8 and 10. They drafted midfielders and if anything look further away while Prestia, O'meara and Dixon have flourished elsewhere.

Carlton will take Walsh IMO..

Luko to Lions, hopefully King twins to GC then maybe adelaide come knocking with picks + players..

Tbh I'd take Rank in a heartbeat, definitely don't want to trade out first pick to move up
Can't trade players in live trading. Only picks

How does getting rid of Seb and Billings fix any of our issues?
All it would do it make us worse.
Trading a contracted Billings, a player fourth in goal assists in the League playing for a team who is 15th in the League for goals for pick 15.

Absolutely ludicrous. 5 and 15 maybe.

Trading out our best players for shit picks.
Sure fire way to being the wilderness for another decade.

I understand wanting to keep Billings & Ross, but honestly 'Dunstan couldnt run our of sight in the dark' he is not the future player our midfield needs.

It reminds me of us hanging onto to Armitage several years ago when there were serious offers made. Armo has always struggled with his abilitiy to cover the ground just like Dunstan. If a decent offer was made for Dunstan I would grab it with both hands.

I don't have an issue trading out one of Ross or Dunstan - because i simply don't rate them as a finals best 22. Ross more advanced than Dunstan, but this year has made me reconsider his worth. They look like scrape along B-Grade talent that you'd want as your depth, not starting mid.

We have too many similar players in the midfield. Ross, Dunstan, Acres & Steele. None of them have pace, their foot skills are crap. All those players are suppose to be inside midfielders but none are clearance beasts according to the AFL stats. There is a list balance problem right there. Steven has his flaws with his kicking too but at least he has some x-factor. I'm hoping Gresham plays more midfield time next year. So if Gresham does play predominantly midfield which of the above makes way or loses more midfield minutes. I feel you can afford to move one on considering they can't play multiple positions, barring maybe Acres up forward, who fans don't him playing there anyway.

I also think the hate on Ross at the moment is over the top. He is still only 25 and had a great season last year, so its not like he is a hopeless list clogger. If we could get in another top midfielder to help him carry the load and fix our forward structure so we have someone to kick to, he would return to that top midfielder he was last year.

Anyone who thinks we could trade him out and expect a kid we bring in to be as god as in, even in 3 years time, is expecting way to much. The chances of that happening is minimal so essentially we would be weakening our list for a speculative kid. He won't be traded anyway but it is still frustrating to constantly see his name suggested by people as someone we should offload, especially considering he is a huge chance to be the captain next year (won't those melts be fantastic when it happens).

Richo has killed Ross this year playing him behind the contests at each stoppage. He has also been used in a sweeping defensive role (but he is not Luke Hodge) and it also detracts from any midfield drive he can provide.

Ross needs to use his legs and drive out of contests, not dishing off by hand side ways backwards etc.

The reason we have kicked the most goals from movement from defence, is Richo is that defensively minded he wont back players like Ross to take the game on from midfield contests.

To me Dunstan is certainly tradeable

I don’t mind this at all.

If you’d said this last year you’d have been laughed off the board, aside from maybe the Dunstan suggestion.

So I guess, whilst I doubt we will trade out those 3 players above, I hope in a years time all 3 are playing better again and it seems ridiculous we would have considered trading in the first place.

Ross seems short of confidence and I don’t see us ever getting the best out of Billing’s until he is the icing on the cake....at the moment we have no cake, that being said Billing’s average games are better than most other players good games. Dunstan is really up and down and I’d be happy to trade if we get something decent in return.

We should be chasing Miles. 25, good accumulator. Any rumours where he's going.
He's been linked to Sydney. Would be a good fit for GC, Essendon, or Carlton or yourselves. Would cost almost nothing as Richmond would probably help him get to his preferred destination.

Where’s the goal assists stats for Billings? He’s 42nd for score involvements I know that.

I don't think both, a player and a pick or two firsts maybe. Adelaide would have a couple of mid career players that Carlton say they want. One of the Crouchs to back up Cripps maybe.
This will be fascinating to see how it plays out. Imagine they trade and adelaide pass on JL.

Would slide into our midfield nicely.
Whats your view on Short. We need a few like him too.

Fair enough. Well he isn't 28 yet, he's 27 but that doesn't really matter.

OP is something you usually get over with time, I had it for over 12 months but it eventually went away.

He's pretty knocked about and isn't a free agent. Have a look at what we have wasted in the past. So far taking short cuts has put us backwards. We would have to give up a minimum of a second round pick and he's probably going to need a year out to get his groin right. Giving up picks should be used for finishing touches not list building.
