Who is coaching the inaugural North Melbourne VFL side?
David Loader will be senior coach of the inaugural North VFL side. He will be assisted by AFL Development Coaches Gavin Brown and Ben Dyer and VFL Football Manager, Andrew Carson.

There will be four assistant coaches to assist the three AFL development coaches.

How many staff are required for the operation?
There will be approximately 30-40 staff working closely with the VFL side, consisting of full-time club employees, part-time staff and volunteers.

The roles include GPS game/training analysts, statisticians team, video analysts, dieticians, doctors, physiotherapists, trainers and masseurs and strength and conditioning staff.

What does the standalone VFL team mean for the club?
The standalone VFL team embeds the club with more playing depth and plays a significant part in the development of the squad.

The VFL training program will be modelled off the AFL program. The aim is to develop players to AFL standard and provide a high standard of competition for those players who are not selected at AFL level in any given week.

Having control over the players' workloads and focusing on areas of development are also major benefits to the club.

Supporters and members will also have greater opportunity to see the club's emerging youngsters take their next game to the next level with several matches at Arden Street and the potential for AFL curtain-raisers.

What jumper will the players wear?
The players will wear North Melbourne guernseys, with the minor difference of VFL specific logos instead of AFL logos.

When does pre-season start?
Players will commence training at Arden Street on Wednesday November 15.

Pre-season will typically consist of three sessions per week, this may be reduced when workloads are high to assist with player load management.

There will be a short break over Christmas before training resumes in January.

How many players will be training at Arden Street from Wednesday?
There will potentially be 45-46 players training, with a final list of the best 24 to be lodged next March.

These players will be selected through analysis of various assessments in both training and match situations.

When is Round 1?
The first round of VFL will be from Friday, April 6 – Sunday, April 8 - this lines up with the third round of AFL games.

Where will North home games be played?
Arden Street Oval will host the majority of North's home games.

Will there be any curtain raisers?
The club is hopeful of confirming multiple VFL/AFL double-headers across the season. This will be announced upon the release of the fixture.

Which teams are in the competition?
The landscape of the VFL has slightly changed. North Ballarat Roosters are no longer in the competition, while Werribee will now field its own side after North opted to go it alone.

The 15 teams are:
Casey Demons, North Melbourne, Coburg, Essendon, Frankston, Sandringham, Collingwood, Port Melbourne, Williamstown, Footscray Bulldogs, Werribee, Richmond, Geelong, Box Hill Hawks and Northern Blues.
This article was written in late November 2017 and specifically states that ...Arden Street will host the majority of North's home games...

Nekminnit - home games to be played at Werribee with no mention of this anywhere by the club in the intervening 2-3 week period.

Something terribly wrong has happened in that period - even in the context of the VFL we wouldn't be expected to make a statement that was so absolutely wrong 3 weeks later.

It would be good for the club to come out and explain fully what transpired between late November and today's VFL draw release.

Bit silly playing matches at the home ground of another club.

Highgate in Cragieburn is AFL standard, in a growth corridor and hosts no VFL side currently.

Would be happy to arrange sweetheart deal for North this year at Highgate if Arden St isn't a goer, hit me up No Bull.

Unfortunately, I'd suggest that Arden St probably isn't up to scratch as yet. The next development will sort that out hopefully.

It would've been nice to have a replacement venue a bit more central though.

The curtain raisers aren't that flash. There'll be about a 90 min gap between games.

I reckon I could get to about half of them. Plus a couple televised. Better than nothing.

Home games at Werribee aside, got to “love” the VFL scheduling. They decide to split the first round over 2 weeks, while we have the bye, meaning we start in week 3. That’s smart.

And giving some teams 8 home games and others 10 - “to maximize sponsorship opportunities” is a master stroke. Is this a sporting competition or some traveling circus show???

FFS.

It's ridiculous. Compromises the whole integrity of the comp.

I wonder if they'll ever consider an AFL reserves comp again and restructuring a state league with powerful suburban clubs.

Wow this is about as disappointed as I have been and that's an achievement given the last 18 months or so of footy.

No Bull - can you please tell us why we aren’t playing all our home games at Arden st
That’s what I’d like to know. My Grandma had a reserved seat at Arden St from the 1970’s which apparently gave her reciprocal rights at Etihad. She was planning to renew it this season (May she RIP) but after news filtered through my wireless modem that our VFL team won’t be playing at Arden St, we soon got it.

Probably faster than my NBN.

WTF are you talking about here? Who cares about the integrity of a feeder comp? It's a feeder comp. If we decide to play our players in positions that serve our AFL team but guarantee the VFL team losing, isn't that far more of a compromise on the integrity of the comp? And would anyone here object to that happening?

As much as I'd love to see VFL games at arden st, I can see benefits in us branding our club out in the Werribee region, where we already have great community ties.

A lot of people care. Just as they care about the WAFL and SANFL.

It's supposedly a legitimate competition, one of the top 3 under the AFL. In its current format you've got half the teams going hell for leather to win and the other half using it as a development comp.

Personally I think we need an AFL reserves comp.
