List Mgmt. 2018 Draft thread.

First 10 is ridiculous. First round would be much better. It would allow ALL teams to reasses where they stand.

Just silly. What if a club has 2/3 top 10 picks? So basically the first day is useless for 8 clubs....

How does this live trading of picks work MB?

Draft picks can be traded in the same fashion as they currently can in trade period, only now it can be done on the night/day as well while the draft is on. Clubs talk to each other and say 'what say we do a deal'. List managers will weigh up points value of their picks and stuff like that, I would imagine...

So we just pick Lukosius and wait till the next day for the rest

;)

Stupid.

2 Days to long really as normally get's done in 2 Hours at Most.

Stupid that Night is Thrusday and Friday be Morning. Next to No One will watch Friday Morning with Schoool and Work

Hmmm, so what are they suggesting, day 1 = trades; day 2 = drafts?

How about a novel concept.

All one day.

Forget the faux entertainment and treat the draft with the respect it deserves.

But that’s too simple.

They just want to be like the Yanks

I assume that the ‘live trading’ aspect will delay the process considerably.
Not sure how long teams can delay their pick whilst they are negotiating a trade.
Clubs may be very cautious for the first year, so may not do much live trading.

Bit sad they could not Trade Drafted Players as be Interesting to see a Team Pick a Player another Team Wants so they can do a Trade with that Player

HS Article explains it a little bit...……..

  • As revealed by the Herald Sun last November, a two-day draft period allows the league to celebrate its star picks before the rest of the draft commences the next day.

The first round of the draft will be held on the evening of Thursday November 22 in a draft that will be held at Etihad Stadium.

The next day the rest of the draft will be completed, followed by the pre-season and rookie drafts.

The AFL’s free agency period starts on Friday October 5 and runs until Friday October 12, a period in which Gold Coast’s Tom Lynch will find his way to a Melbourne club.

The overlapping AFL trade period runs from Monday October 8 at 10am until Wednesday October 17, finishing with a prime cut-off at 8.30pm.

The league believes there is significant appeal in the last hours of the trade period, as clubs frantically try to get deals done.

Clubs will be able to trade picks throughout the national draft for the first time.

So if Adelaide was keen to secure Jack Lukosius and he had not been taken at No. 5 in the draft order, they could trade with the club that held that pick to ensure they selected him.

Clubs will not be allowed to trade for a player once he has already been selected by a club.

  • The league today wrote to clubs saying live trading “will be introduced provide clubs with more flexibility when making player selections and managing their lists.”
