Draft Review 2018 - The 2018 Superdraft

Nothing will ever match the 2001 for generational players.

But the 2018 will have the most depth in terms of guns and 200-game players.
Got a lot of water to go under the bridge before it catches 2008.

2006?? what

I reckon this will fly past all of them and rival 2001 when it is all said and done.

I know how big a call that is, but Im super bullish on so many of the players in this draft.

The Kings / Rozee and Rankine / Lukosius, Smith and Walsh get all the plaudits but Butters would be the best performed this year and has been clutch or in the bests of most of our wins this year.

His skills and composure are sublime, his enthusiasm on and off the pitch is infectious and his courage to throw his frame into every pack and hole is inspirational. Absolutely adore him.

Pretty happy with the way the Port kids have gone about it, they have been very good this year. Also chuck in Farrell, you must be very proud of them. Exciting to watch, quick, skillful and most importantly winning games. I was more of a Duursma fan myself last year

Im not sure if he is the best this year, but either way Butters is a ripper. Dursma is top notch as well. You guys have killed the Super Draft.

So has Gold Coast. I dont think any of St Kilda, Bulldgs or Carlton are second guessing their first choices choices, all looking the goods.

Im happy with our lot too (although obviously further down)

You're including Ayce Cordy and Taylor Hunt but not Jack Watts? Rough!

Killer draft

I reckon I would have went with one of the kings first
If Max hadn't done his knee and had kept playing at anywhere near the level of his only TAC Cup game that year (15 shots at goal and a bucketful of marks), clubs wouldn't have been able to call his name out fast enough at pick 1.

The way he moves at ground level is ridiculous for a guy who gets up to mark the ball at those heights and can kick it 55m like it's nothing.

Any of the first 4 could/would have gone pick 1 in multiple drafts.

Terrific talent in this draft. After a quieter year last year, butters has emerged as the best of our three draftees and is having a ridiculous year. He's been arguably the best performer of all the 2018 draftees this season, and would sit very high in our Best and Fariest.

Terrific debut from Jack Bytel tonight. Was tipped to go as high as top 10 in this draft, after averaging the second most disposals in the TAC cup in his underage year, but then a back injury ruined his draft year, and prevented him from playing AFL last year.

From just 73% gametime tonight he had 18 disposals (at 78% efficiency), eight contested, 7 score-involvements and five clearances.

Might even snare himself a rising star nom.

If this happens, something about this Jack makes me think it'd be a long time before Maxy King heard the end of it

Pretty amazing game from Smith the other day.

The equivalent of 40+ disposals and 1000+ metres-gained, if it was a regular length game!

While Max King could so easily have kicked 4 goals in the first quarter on Sunday, and maybe even 5, had a mark in the goalsquare that would often be paid wasn't.

As it was he kicked 2, threw another away after marking in the goalsquare and unnecessarily playing on and getting caught, and missing a set shot from about 40m out right in front.

Lukosius really starting to come on now, alot of people calling him Jack Watts like but he has been utterly fantastic for us as a rebounding defender. He would he close to one of the best kicks in the league already
If we only got to keep 1 out of King, Rankine and Luko, it's Luko for me every time. Would take him at 1 in a re-draft without question, no matter how good the others have been.

Genuinely can't think of an applicable player-comparison. 195cm with the agility of a midfielder, and one of, if not the best field kicking in the AFL combined with ridiculously good decision making. pulls off 60m bullet passes you can’t pick out even on screen every game.

3rd in metres gained and 8th in rebound 50's for the season in his second year. Kid is special.

He’s an absolute ripper. You’ve got yourselves a beauty.

Such an unbelievably strong draft.

I know there’s a lot of commentary around Walsh, Rozee, and the King brothers but Smith is a ripper as is Butters.

He’s the only one I’d take before Smith. He’s an absolute freak. Looks like he’s just chipping the ball but they’re 60m darts. Been very well coached by Dew.

Just so smooth of a mover and with the ball. I cant wait till he gets that little bit stronger to start taking more contested marks. Going to be a true nightmare match up for anyone

in 2 short years:

good afl talent (24) - Walsh, Lukosius, Rankine, M.King, Rozee, B.King, B.Smith, Thomas, Blakey, Butters, Quaynor, Clark, Duursma, I.Hill, Rowbottom, Hamill, Vandermeer, Bytel, C.Taylor, Answerth, L.Schulz, Stack, Wilkie, L.Young

looking likely to be good afl talent (21) - Jones, Caldwell, Hately, McHenry, Sturt, E.Smith, McLennan, West, Sparrow, B.Williams(WCE), T.Berry, Jarrad Cameron, McFadyen, Ross, Scott, Nietschke, Scholl, Ham, Bedford, Woodcock, Bosenvulagi

with many more im sure i have missed!, including the Hawthorn trio which i like but cant get a game because of injury and internal politics at the Hawks - Koschitzke, Walker and Greaves, looking like a mighty strong draft imo

Couple of my giants in Caldwell and O'Halloran need to fall into one of those 2 groups.

yea i just edited Caldwell in there, not sure on O'Halloran yet with his debut being a bit average, but he has a chance to make it, maybe next year he will have a breakout year?

His first game was excellent, second, poor.
