I think in the draft over the next few years we need to add at least:
  • A “lock down” tall defender.
  • A ruck (not a project rookie)
  • A defender (or 2) with elite footskills to replace Hurn and Jetta
  • A goalkicking wingman who can accumulate possessions
  • Quality midfielders (as many as we can get)

Our youth is pretty exciting IMO. All of the following have played bar Brayshaw and broadly looked comfortable. Barrass and Cole obviously established rising stars.

Ryan 21
Brander 19
O Allen 19
Duggan 21
Venables 19
Brayshaw 20
Petruccelle 19
Cole 21
Ainsworth 19
Barrass 22
Waterman 20
Rioli 23.

Bit older but still young:

Sheed 23
Yeo 24.

Good times.

Good times indeed.

There most likely will be a rough patch after JK and Hurn retire and before either Brander or O Allen can fill JKs shoes.

But at most that should be 2-3 years.

Then the party train continues

Looking at that list really emphasises the need for us to draft some good quality midfielders. Cupboard is pretty bare

2028 is a stretch. 10 years ago was 2008, players that were on the list in 2008 that are still here are;

Lecras
Hurn
Kennedy
Schofield
MacKenzie
Masten

I think that's all. 4/6 are best 22 (MacKenzie & Schofield are in a perpetual battle with Gov and Barrass) and Masten only just unanimously became best 22.

2028 is a bit of a stretch

Schofield might retire, and I have no doubt he will working within the club post playing days.

2020 we could see all of Hurn, Kennedy, Jetta & Masten potentially heading out the door.
