It's understandable that Geelong and north Melbourne have a similar list management strategy and the Scott boys may have learned it during their time in Brisbane but not from Leigh Matthews rather from Wayne Bennet and the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL. Wayne Bennet is famous for moving on players as they come close to the end of their career, the great Wally Lewis and Qld legend Trevor Gillmister are 2 examples. He is also famous for limiting what certain positions are paid, he family says a Prop is not worth more than $400k a season and if they want more off you go. In his book he explains if you have too many older players nearing the end they band together and affect your culture as they want to play out their careers doing it their way. He argues you refresh from the bottom and trade in what you really need. And NRL players have much more freedom to move that AFL players. In the last few years we have seen both Geelong and North cut legends from their squads before they retire and some/most went of a year or 2 else where. Maybe those Scott boys are real hard buggers like they were on the field, not afraid to tell players what they will earn and when and if their is an argument they tell the club legends not to let the door hit them in the ass on the way out.
