I’d say there’s a decent chance Walker and Martin could be traded. Frost might get delisted a year early. But they might avoid that as I’m fairly sure that Bastinac will be. Frost’s reserves form has been good hasn’t it? Probably remains a solid back up option.
We'd have to pay Frost out as he has another year remaining, you'd hope that he offers some experience to the NEAFL side and the young players so it might be worthwhile keeping him around.

Walker is a much better player than Eagles and I wouldn't be surprised if Eagles is delisted. I think with the number of talls we have that Eagles is surplus to requirements based on his age and honestly lack of upside.
Think you will find Fages has already come out to say Eagles will be on the list next year

We can now rule Beams leaving this year out of calculations. The club have released the statement that he will play out his contract then leave in 2 years time. while that might just increase his price for anyone thinking about a trade I think they will want him around the young midfielders we have have whom in another 2 years will be running the team. (Berry, Bags, Rayner, Bailey etc)

If that's the case then good luck to Eagles but I don't think he will ever be more than a handy NEAFL player. Just doesn't seem to have the awareness that most good players have and unless Gardiner & Walker get injured he will be lucky to get a game next year.

I certainly think Walker and Eagles are fighting for the same spot in the side next year. Eagles was doing it well before he got injured.

As well as that, we have openly said about playing attractive, fast football to get more people to games. Eagles does have a bit of a cult following. I imagine they will give him an extra year for that as well. Not exactly on the big bucks.

Eagles actually wasn't that great before he got injured. Averaged 7 possessions and 2.5 marks vs 14 and almost 7 for Walker. Walker is a much better mark and can play both ends of the ground while also being 3 years younger than Eagles. The cult factor works when a player is genuinely a good player, Eagles isn't that.

Neither Eagles or Walker are great options but I’d prefer Eagles for his athleticism. Hopefully Skinner or Payne pass them both very quickly.
Agree that hopefully Skinner/Payne/Ballenden all go past then but I actually think the whole Eagle athleticism is over-rated. I doubt that he is anymore athletic than Walker and Walker's awareness means he reads the play at a higher level.

Agree Walker and Eagles fighting for the same spot.

I'd have Walker slightly ahead on talent. I'd have Walker ahead on flexibility, as he can swing to both ends, and I'd have Walker ahead on the fact that he's 26yo next season, Eagles is 29yo next season.

I'd say that Eagles could have a higher ceiling than Walker given that they're at similar levels despite the gulf in experience, but at his age, I'm sorry - it's just too late for Matty.

I agree, Matty’s age really will hurt him here. I can see walker taking that spot over him just due to that fact.
Could Matty spend another year on the rookie list?

Eagles athleticism is the main factor. Andrews can't play small and neither can Walker. We saw on the weekend that neither were mobile enough to play on Darling.

This might be a stretch considering the saints want both King twins but I still think Ben could slide a bit more than Max
Hey fellas, I’m not sure where you’re getting this information from, but the King twins are the lowest priority for St Kilda. The club already has too many KPFs as is (Membrey, Battle, Bruce, McCartin, Marshall all competing for 2-3 spots), and recently drafted and traded for KPDs, so both are surplus to the club’s needs.

The only interest that St Kilda has in them is the hope that Gold Coast draft Max as a Lynch replacement, and then reach for Ben so as to secure the twins and minimise their flight risk (whilst also sorting out their book ends for a decade). This would lead to the ideal scenario of having access to Walsh, Rankine, or Smith with the 4th pick.

Hope this helps with any theoretical trades.

Could be wrong but Membrey seems more like a third tall, Bruce and Marshall are duds and Battle and McCartin are struggling.

A King, Battle/McCartin and Membrey forwardline looks pretty dangerous.

Would we be better off trying to offload Beams now? (Serious question) I feel if we can get a nice deal for him while he has currency then all avenues should be looked at (which I'm confident the club will). If his ideal location is in vic then I'm sure we can help that.

I wouldn’t consider trading out our first pick in 2019. Although we are showing huge improvement and potential, I feel that it wouldn’t take much to go wrong for us to finish bottom four again. I expect we should see a minimum of 8 wins next year, but we are still working on getting that winning culture embedded and it could go wrong and cause any trade to go against us. Trading the first pick is a huge risk at this stage of our development

IMO he would be more valuable now, than in 2 years time. I believe the club will try to do their best to get the right value for Dayne and the club.

Nathan Freeman was just on SEN, such a sad footy journey for the lad, he had a good run of games in the VFL and AFL at the end of this season and is currently injury free, he is an impressive sounding individual and was certainly not feeling sorry for himself, tremendous perspective and resilience. He said he would love to get another go as a rookie somewhere, I'd be for giving him a rookie spot if we have the list space.

Trust me, you’d know if I was the ‘Cho - I’d be coming here offering you pick 4 for Beams to try to save my job next season

You’re correct in that Membrey is a 3rd tall, but St Kilda play 2-3 tall forwards (depending on match ups) including him, so the club regards him as a KPF.

As for the rest, Marshall is a 22 year old with 13 games under his belt - calling him a dud would be considered premature no matter which way you spin it. He has shown more than enough promise for a 13 gamer and is our only legitimate ruck/forward

Bruce’s 2018 was ruined by injuries, whilst 2017 was poor, but it was 2016 when he cleared 50 goals so a bit harsh to call someone a dud when they’re effectively 1 season removed from 50 goals in the modern game. Having said that, I don’t rate him as much as others (50 goal season is the exception not the rule, IMO).

McCartin is definitely struggling and has played enough games to make that judgement, but Battle is a 19 year old and only played 7 games, so not sure what you’d expect from him (like Marshall).

On the flip side, compare St Kilda’s midfield to every other team in the competition and it’s utter trash. Steven is older, Ross seems to be the “very good but never elite” type, Gresham shows promise, and Steele might go well at a stretch. Even a fellow bottom 4 club like yourselves runs rings around that midfield. It’s St Kilda’s weakest area by a big margin, so we can’t see them taking a King type who is an upgrade by default (haven’t given Marshall/Battle enough time to prove themselves) whereas one of the top flight midfielders is a huge addition to the rubbish that’s there

#9 from Essendon sounds about right

Would throw Michael Barlow a lifeline on a one year incentives based contract. Only 30, mature big body and too good to be delisted by GC. Would be good to plug into our midfield for a couple years while our youth grows.

Hey Strahany, is there any substance to the rumors that Seb Ross is looking to get out and possibly move to us?

Hey Strahany, is there any substance to the rumors that Seb Ross is looking to get out and possibly move to us?
We’ve heard from some reliable posters on the Saints board that a number of players aren’t all that happy at the moment. These were a few of the mid-tier players who you don’t want to lose but could live with a trade if you had to. But then just recently someone has not only thrown Seb’s name into the mix, but gone one step further and suggested he actively approached an opposition club (presumably Brisbane given the other rumours).

It doesn’t really make sense since he just signed a big contract and could be winning his second B+F but, having said that, the playing group is quite tight-knit and are collectively oppositional towards the club in some aspects (for example, they banded together to force an adjustment to the game plan). So perhaps some of Seb’s friends are getting pushed/shopped around, so combine that with a poor season and a coach that isn’t steering the ship in the right direction.....
