Do you still expect Beams and Zorko to be playing midfield in 2021?

I think they'll be phased out from then and we can't expect Berry and Clug to be leading our midfield at 23 unless one of them turns into Oliver or Cripps.
I think Berry will lead our midfield at 23 - I am a huge wrap for him. To have the season he is having with a limited preseason is impressive. I also think Zorko will still be playing then but as a small forward.

In 2021 we should be playing finals. Do you think this is possible with a 23 year old as our oldest midfielder

What other midfielders do we have in that team? Not including rucks or wings?
Tim Kelly for one
(But I am not starting this again!)
In all seriousness I was under the belief that we are going to the draft this year again then will look to be more aggressive in trades in the years that follow. Hopefully correlating with our rise up the table so we are more attractive as a destination club. I'm assuming this strategy will involve trading in some gun middle aged midfielders.
The ones I have in from current squad are: Berry, Rayner, Matho, Bailey and hopefully Starc comes on as well as a couple of guns from this years draft.

I think as well as trading in gun mids you have to assume that we'll lose a player or 2 over the next few seasons.

While the numbers are comparable my feeling is that if CEY could get a run at it he has more upside than the other two (nothwithstanding concerns about his disposal skills) - faster, bigger, stronger.

I think footy IQ is the issue with CEY and concentration lapses but athletically he's more gifted.

Anyone actually think we'll become a trade destination just because we move up the ladder a bit? Even if we're in 7th-8th spot, I struggle to see any Victorian players thinking "I'm locked in the best 22 here, and there are 9 other teams in the area, but what I really want is to move to Brisbane".

It'll be something like Beams retiring end 2020 and Zorko end 2021. We might stand a chance of a few elder statesmen deals, but I can't see any guns moving over here just to play for us.

Blake Caracella (pre-free agency) is the only example off the top of my head that really bucked a trend by moving to Brisbane in his prime (and not being from Qld), and even then, to simply chase success. But you're right spotthedog1 I'm not expecting us to become a trade destination based on our perceived trajectory or otherwise (does not include players who were on the outs e.g. Fevola, Bastinac etc.).

I dunno, it's sort of venturing into uncharted territory for us. Since free agency has been introduced we've seen a vast percentage of free agents opt to move to successful teams of which we have not been. If/When we're in a window we may end up being a higher chance to attract someone than we have historically. Different era and we haven't been in a position to capitalise.

Year Cotch became captain of the Tigers, and the first year they played recent finals, he was only 23. I suppose he had Lids, an absolute gun, at 26 in career best form and Jackson and Grigg would have probably been around the same age though.
On the flip side Dogs won their flag with their best midfielder being 21 and the oldest mid being 25 so who knows?
I do think it's a big gap on our list and we need to bridge it though. Wallis as a FA and/or CEY for a late pick/fringe player swap would go someway towards bridging that gap.

I rate Nic Newman. Would be a good get and relatively cheap.

Can play in the middle, half back or on a wing. Would suit our game plan with his penetrating and accurate kicking.
Josh Thomas............come on downnnnnnnnn or upppppppppp....................pleaseeeeeeee....ur a Qlder and ur best mate is up here (near here)

Not sure about fast, but CEY is definitely big and strong. But then so are a lot of guys who never amount to much. My take is that CEY would give us nothing we can't get out of Mathieson, he looks impressive and that's about it.
