Not sure about fast, but CEY is definitely big and strong. But then so are a lot of guys who never amount to much. My take is that CEY would give us nothing we can't get out of Mathieson, he looks impressive and that's about it.
What does Wallis give us that would be different then I wonder?

Not even remotely as injury prone and has been best 22 in a finals team before injury which CEY has not. I like what Wallis can offer up forward more than CEY but admittedly it's because I'm envisioning a situation where we're alternating him and Beams through the forward line.
I honestly wouldn't mind us picking up both if the price is right, though it'd be tough to play both at the same time. Bit too slow.
If I had to pick it'd be Wallis.

Same with CEY

Out of contract, the strong-bodied onballer is expected to attract interest from rival clubs looking to bolster their midfield but is understood to be happy at Adelaide and waiting on a new deal.

In the interest of throwing tires on the fire of discussion Wallis has been a regular fixture in the 22 and would've been a premiership player if not for an unfortunate incident.
CEY is out of contract, on the rookie list and barely played over his entire career. CEY may be a lot of things but he's not out of reach.

Of course. The bigger question is whether or not he’s AFL standard.

I agree he’s a backup option. If we can’t get someone like Wallis then CEY or Miles would be handy on the rookie list.

He projects to me as Matho but taller. I'm not sure what he offers outside that but he does have a really debilitating injury history. Curious from me. Late pick or nothing

This is is probably a naive question but what does Wallis offer us that Bastinic doesn't? I know Basti is out of favour but I hark back to his excellent "best 22" form in the back half of last year and his ability to go forward and reliably kick goals. Obviously, his perceived lack of defensive work is a key factor but his demise continues to puzzle me, particularly given his recent form in the NEAFL.

Can easily see the parallels, I guess Wallis is younger and what he's done has been in a stronger team, which once won a flag.

I think you’re overrating his form last year. I think we’ve moved past having too many one paced front runners in the midfield.

Plus apparently he’s playing hurt and watching his highlights he seems to move as little as possible.

Didn't Basti come to us as a contested ball winning inside mid? I am not being provocative, just asking the question?
He probably was the inside contested player 8 yers ago, but we didn't have the likes of Cripps, Bont, Oliver types running round. Basti is probably just too small these days and doesn't really have anything else to fall back on unfortunately. Needed to add more string to his bow but I'm afraid his time is probably up.

Basti played well(ish) last year on the wing but McCluggage and Cutler have gone well past him. Even with Hugh hopefully moving more into the centre square I'd much rather we give the wing role to someone like Allison or Cox (if we want to push him up the ground).

Wallis is far better inside than basti and has played pretty well this year, even though they have had him playing forward a fair bit. But I agree with cotter101 that we don't have a great shot - he is odds on to stay in Melbourne I think.

CEY and Miles don't excite me at all and I'd probably prefer others on the rookie list.

What about Jamie Elliott from the Pies? OOC this year.

If we did our due diligence re the injury concerns I'd definitely take him, would come reasonably cheap because of that lack of game time this year. IMO he has a unique set of skills that he brings to the table ie. elite marking and crumbing small forward when in form, he's an extremely hard match up for opposition defenses, x factor in spades.

Jamie Elliott, Charlie Cameron and Cam Rayner rotating through the forward line would cause some serious issues for opposition defenders.
