The Wallis stuff started because he was dropped earlier in the season and then a couple of media people said they heard whispers linking him to us.

He wants to stay at the dogs, there is no question.. but if they offer him $450k a year over 2 and we offer him $650k a year over 4-5.. he is going to have a big decision to make and that is about where I think it will sit come years end.

Yeah 650 seems fair enough in the current cap situation.

You generally are happy to wear a bit of extra money for free agents because they dont cost you anything at the trade table.

Tom Morris from Fox Sports rates Wallis as a 50:50 chance of staying and Dalhaus being more likely to stay.

I would have thought it was the other way around.

Rocky’s between 700k-750k. I think people are seriously overrating Wallis if they are happy to see him join the Lions on a 4 or 5 year deal at 650k a year.
I think he'll make our team significantly better. Not because he's a star but he's the type of player we are desperate for. Will also help the handover between Beams and Zorko to Clug and Berry.

With Wallis I have no issue offering 3 or 4 years but wouldn't want to be paying more that 550K. Even that is a little bit of a stretch.
I'm the opposite. 4/5 years as stated in OP seems very risky to me. Especially with the likes of Clugga (2021), Berry (2020) and Rayner (2021) contracts needing to be renewed in that time.

I don't mind paying ~650k to pry someone away from Vic. 3 years with some sort of option for more based on performance ....maybe.

I just think there are other options available that would do the same job, just as good at a cheaper rate both dollar wise and contract length wise.

We know you rate CEY but we can't risk a Lisle or Bell or Frost type situation where we get someone who's borderline best 22 and expect him to step up. And we can't underestimate the value of Wallis' leadership and experience in this situation.

There's a reason why Wallis is more expensive.

Probably an academic debate. Still don't see anyone who's faintly appealing wanting to come to us. End of next year maybe, assuming we continue to progress.

I’m not as fussed about the 650k as I am the 4/5 year contract at that money.

I think Miles or CEY would more than do the job. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against Wallis by any means. But I’m not an advocate at 650k a season on a 4 or 5 year deal.

What about Jamie Elliott from the Pies? OOC this year.

If we did our due diligence re the injury concerns I'd definitely take him, would come reasonably cheap because of that lack of game time this year. IMO he has a unique set of skills that he brings to the table ie. elite marking and crumbing small forward when in form, he's an extremely hard match up for opposition defenses, x factor in spades.

Jamie Elliott, Charlie Cameron and Cam Rayner rotating through the forward line would cause some serious issues for opposition defenders.
Rotating thru the rehabline more like it lol.

I'm really not sure if we should go after a fringe best 22 inside mid this trade period.

I can understand CEY, Wallis or Miles, or who ever, as depth to cover an injury to Beams, MRobbo or Berry, but are they taking a spot on the bench from one of our developing youngsters, or are they expected to play NEAFL until an injury occurs? What point bringing in a player for four years on a significant contract, if they are going to be pushed down the pecking order as the kids mature.

The only situation where I see one of these players coming in this summer, is if Beams requests a trade at the end of the season.
