I'm really not sure if we should go after a fringe best 22 inside mid this trade period.

I can understand CEY, Wallis or Miles, or who ever, as depth to cover an injury to Beams, MRobbo or Berry, but are they taking a spot on the bench from one of our developing youngsters, or are they expected to play NEAFL until an injury occurs? What point bringing in a player for four years on a significant contract, if they are going to be pushed down the pecking order as the kids mature.

The only situation where I see one of these players coming in this summer, is if Beams requests a trade at the end of the season.
Wallis would replace Matho but actually be good.

I think there’s been very little improvement over his 3 seasons. Looks unlikely he’ll make it.
Maybe it is my low expectations for him but I think Matho has been decent since returning to the team. I wouldn't be giving up on him just yet as a purely inside player. Not all players have to be stars, and others like Keays have shown less and worry me more.

Agree Wallis would be a big upgrade though.

Not sure if he has. Wallis can play inside mid and forward whereas Matho is the definition of one trick pony.
pfft. One player is 25 years old and the other is 21 years old, so unfair to compare them at the current stage. Wait until Matho is 25 years old and has a bigger tank

Personally feel anyone of those 3 would be best 22 at the Lions. Clearly lacking an inside midfielder, big time.
Nope
Only Wallis makes it into our best 22,Miles as evidenced by lack of opportunities at Tigers by his inability to hit targets yes gets the ball makes him instantly in our best 22, but that’s no good when you turn it straight back over with up and under kicks, that’s what we are moving away from. He is not the answer. CEY to risky.

Longer? Losing him was a blessing.
Yep, the only one on there I'd be interested in would be Brayden Preuss. The article is more than likely just a space filler written up over the water cooler.

Miles is actually a decent kick. He’s a better kick than Wallis. He can’t crack into a midfield that’s got the likes of Dusty, Cotchin, Prestia, Caddy and co rotating through.

didn't realise Jaryd Lyons was out of contract. He's the one I'd be pursuing. Already in Queensland, brother on our list, 26yo so great age bracket, is 2nd (after Tom Mitchell) for average clearances in the league this year. (give his brother a debut before the end of the season to sweeten the deal)

Would throw a lot at him and be prepared to trade something decent for him. (eg. our second (pick 22ish) and Josh Walker for Lyons and a later pick).

Would pay overs to get him on the basis that he is best 22 and may help us make finals sooner. (consider the above trade in context of Gold Coast trading pick 2 for Lachie Weller)

Never trade overs when the player is OOC. Plus I wouldn't be keen to get rid of our second pick or Walker at this point. Walker did a good job when Andrews was sidelined. He is a good depth player that can come in when needed either forward or back, plus he is still playing now. Unless we get an offer for him that is too good to refuse we won't be getting rid of him I think.
Personally I think we are more likely to get rid of our Lyons than bring in the GC one.

I would be for going after Jarryd Lyons but I wouldn't be including our 2nd round pick.

Based on current picks in the draft I'd offer our pick 39 for him straight up.

Josh Walker is looking like he could be good depth for us forward and back, I'd like to keep him.

Greg Swann on The Roar Deal today was asked about the stories linking us to Cam Ellis-Yolmen and Mitch Wallis.

"We want good quality if we can and that's not denigrating the 2 guys you mentioned, they are both solid players but um yer we are wanting really good players."

An emphasis was placed on "we are wanting really good players", he didn't rule out CEY or Wallis but listening to the interview they would be a fallback option if at all.

IMO Noble, Ambrogio and co have a surprise in for us lined up for this trade period.

Yeah sounds like they aren't first options an that is fair enough. I would love to see us pull a surprise but not sure what it could be.

Any idea what that surprise might be?

It wouldn't be a surprise if we knew guys;).

I have no idea although Josh Kelly, Stephen Coniglio or Dylan Shiel would be reasonably good gets.

Thoughts on these out of contracted players. Adam Oxley, George Horlin-Smith, Jesse Lonergan.

Oxley, 25 Years Old. Slightly older then the next generation. Pretty sure he lived most his life in QLD, forgive me if I am wrong. Had two good seasons at Collingwood on the Half Back line. Upgrade on a Lester maybe? Derik Hine Quoted: “We all know he can play at the level, it’s just a matter now of him getting that opportunity, through fitness more than anything,”. One worth looking at I think but would be in that 15-30 best player range.

Horlin-Smith, 25 Years Old, same age bracket as above. Played 4 games in the midfield this year in a star studded midfield at the cats. Averaged 17 touches for the 4 games. Not convinced about him, but could be an option.

Lonergan, 24, High Draft Pick in 2012. Rate highly and would be very keen to get him down the road. For nothing as well. Could see him playing better footy at a fresh club.
